Description
A cosy waterfront cabin on The Great Lake, Miena - Coldwater Cabin is the perfect place for a secluded wilderness escape. Relax on the deck with a glass of wine and watch the light dance across the lake, or curl up inside with a cup of tea and take in the views through the north-facing windows. If what you crave is the connection to wilderness only Tasmania can offer, then Coldwater Cabin is the place for you. Follow our stays @coldwatercabin The space Our cabin is an ideal retreat for individuals and couples alike. Every room looks onto to the lake, giving a feeling of constant connection to the wild Central Highlands outside. The warmth and ambience of a fire will be a highlight of your stay. The kitchen and living spaces contain wood stoves for heating and ample firewood. And, in the bedroom and bathroom, there are smaller electric heaters to keep you toasty when the temperature drops. Even though the cabin is cosy, the weather is often unpredictable, so make sure to bring warm clothing for extra comfort. Heating the house is predominantly from the fireplace so it is essential that guests know how to light a fire. If you enjoy cooking, the kitchen has plenty of crockery and utensils, and the deck is the perfect setting for a meal in calm summer nights. We stock a basic pantry that includes coffee beans and grinder, tea, salt, pepper, oil, and some dried herbs and vinaigrettes. You’ll need to buy fresh supplies before heading up the mountain. The closest Woolworths is 40 minutes away in Deloraine, and there is a small shop and pub meals available at The Great Lake hotel and Highland Lodge. If you feel like spoiling yourself, we highly recommend trying some of the amazing Tasmanian wineries and fresh food suppliers on the drive up to the cabin. Curtains separate the bedroom from the living room, which gives you the option of getting cosy in the evening or waking to an uninterrupted view of sunrise over the lake. The king-sized bed has fresh linen and there are tonnes of woollen blankets for you to use. The bathroom is simple, with a shower and clawfoot bath with lake views. The cabin runs on tank water, so time is of the essence when it comes to showering. The cabin is incredibly special to us. We’ve spent loads of time designing, renovating and curating all the details so that it suits the natural landscape. It’s our very special family space that we want to share with like-minded travellers. Guest access You have access to the entire house except for one small room we use for storage. Other things to note It is essential to use “all weather tires” during winter. The roads can get very icy and it is important to have chains ready if necessary. Please note - the cabin is there for an “offline” escape. We have no TV or internet. You do get Telstra 4G at the cabin so you can use your phone for streaming or likewise. Also - please remember this is an almost “off the grid” cabin in the bush. We try to make the place as maintenance free as possible but if you have issues with gas or water get in touch with ASAP and we will walk you through any maintenance steps.
