Description
Instagram: tidescottage Our holiday cottage situated directly on the sea front is a light, calm retreat. It is located on the beachfront in the heart of Whitstable close to local pubs, restaurants and cafes. The house offers a fluid living / sleeping space full of rustic charm and simple pleasures. Furnished with natural antiques and quality linens this is the perfect place to unwind with a book whilst watching one of the amazing sunsets. We also have a beach hut available. Dogs welcome. The space From the front the garden is crammed with romantic old English planting and overspilling lavender bushes. A bench under the front window allows for sitting and watching the world go by. The cottage faces northwest and all front rooms receive wonderful warm evening sunset light. The area in front of the cottage is pedestrian only which is great for sitting out and enjoying an evening drink or letting kids play safely outside your front door. The beach is pebble and we swim all year round. The groynes provide cosy wind-shelters and the water is often glass-like and still making it ideal for younger swimmers. The cottage interior is full of original features and is wood floored throughout with salvaged doors / a kitchen made from reclaimed shop fittings and parquet. Many people comment on how spacious the cottage feels. There are two cosy living rooms with working fires and a curtained reading bed with feather mattress, a large light kitchen with a Rayburn, blender, coffee maker and breakfast table. There is also a large dining conservatory with old encaustic tiles and a table seating 8. Attention has been paid to small extras such as dimmable lighting and black out blinds. Mattresses have thick toppers and fluffy feather duvets and pillows. The house is full of books, a record player and radios; there is no dishwasher and no television, we do have WIFI. Tides cottage is a place for slow simple living. The quirky cobbled garden is planted with lavender and herbs and also has a table that seats eight and a shed with firewood/ deckchairs etc. We are very dog friendly but would prefer dogs not to jump on the furniture! We also have a small dog bed if requested. Please Note! Being a small cottage the stairs are steep- there is no stairgate but doors can be shut to stop children reaching these if necessary. One of the bedrooms is also a mezzanine above the master bedroom and the bathroom is accessed through the master bedroom. This is why the property is only really suitable for one family or very good friends! We have lived in the cottage as a family with 3 small boys but some people may find the combination of steep cottage style stairs and a mezzanine worrying for them. Due to the cottagey nature of the house taller types may have to stoop to use the shower attachment in the bath. As we are a seafront property there is no road access directly in front or behind us. Cars can be unloaded in the Neptune Gap side lane a 2 minute walk from us either side. The nearest parking is on Nelson Road. There are instructions on how to use the Rayburn but there is also a convection oven in the microwave and a little portable mini hob. There is a selection of paper, wooden toys, brio trains and dressing up bits for young children in the chest in the conservatory/dining room. There are many board games, art books, general literature and magazines throughout the house. We encourage you to rummage in all cupboards! Guest access Guests have use of the whole house and garden. They are also free to use anything in the shed (crabbing nets / boogie boards/BBQ etc) as long as they look after them! There is a highchair / travel cot and bedding/ bibs / spoons/ all kids plates etc We do charge per visit for a cleaner which is £80 per stay. This includes a set of towels for six and freshly ironed linen sheets. Other things to note There is a two night minimum stay for this cottage. Check out time is 10am. If you do bring a dog please respect our furniture! We will charge for your dog as we find extra cleaning is always necessary. Some shops and restaurants will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays so please check in advance if you are wanting to visit somewhere in particular! There is no parking by the cottage. There are a few temporary parking spaces on Neptune Gap but you may have to wheel your suitcases a bit! Please do not drive down/ unload on Marine Gap as it causes problems with the neighbours access!!
