Description

RYALL is a hamlet 10 minutes’ drive from the beaches of the Jurassic Coast, Bridport & Lyme Regis. A modern, romantic Shepherd's Hut. It has a kingsize bed, with a goose down duvet, proper shower/loo, fitted kitchen, & desk. Wifi & DAB radio. It's super warm, there’s a log-burning stove, a radiator & heated towel rail. We've just added an Indian Fire Bowl For nights toasting marshmallows outside. Sunny days a BBQ & a seating area for eating al fresco. Extremely welcoming to all. Especially dogs The space The shepherd's hut is basically one room with a separate shower/toilet. The inbuilt king size bed is at one end. The fitted mini kitchen & table are along the back wall. The fold down desk/table is next to it. On the other wall there is a double window at the end of the bed so you wake up to this lovely view. Next there is an electric radiator. Then the double stable doors. All the woodwork is lovely crafted oak. In the corner there is a tiny woodburning stove. Then at the opposite end of this 18ft hut, there is a door to a fully fitted shower room. The loo has a wooden seat & high cistern, it is on mains drainage. Hot water is constant. Basin & small cupboard for make up etc. Outside there is a gravelled seating area with table, chairs & gas BBQ. On the lawn there are a couple of steamer chairs for sunbathing. We have just installed an Indian Fire Bowl outside for toasting marshmallows or roasting sausages. There are blankets stashed under the bed to use if the night is chilly. This is a dark sky area. We say no children for safety reasons, there is an unfenced wildlife pond in the meadow area. If your dog is a water baby bring dog towels! Guest access Once you have parked on our broad driveway, the way up to the hut paddock is straightforward. Up a set of steps to the patio by our kitchen, past a fountain. Continue up the slight incline on the grass to an arch on the left in the middle of a yew hedge. That gate is your entry to the hut paddock & your private domain. If it’s very wet & muddy take the path round the back of our house to a set of paved steps and a paved pathway up to the paddock gate. The wildflower sections of the paddock are maybe a bit too successful, being far taller and packed with flowers than we anticipated. It has been scythed down in the Autumn and Spring it just bursts into life again. The hut is approached by gravel paths. There is a short flight of steps from the driveway, then another one up onto the path through our garden. There are steep wooden steps up to the hut. There are no handrails. Just to be clear: this property would not suit anybody who is unable to cope with these access problems. Other things to note The beaches are wide & beautiful. There are fossils to collect on several. Parking is easy. Dogs are allowed on plenty of beaches and the info file in the hut lists them. . On Charmouth East beach you can walk dogs on the beach even in summer. There are many very good local restaurants and pubs in Bridport & Lyme Regis. There are details in the info file. Also lots of independent shops. We are spoilt for choice as there seems to be a festival or country show or something going on most weekends. This is an area of outstanding beauty, the coast is world heritage site. Walks and National Trust places to visit abound. Please be aware the Jurassic Coast cliffs are always crumbling & rock falls are always a possibility. There are signs on the cliff top paths warning not to go to near the edge. Also there are signs on all our beaches warning against sitting too close underneath the cliffs at its base.
