220-year-old Blue Merchant's Mansion with Seasonal Vegetable and Fruit Harvesting Experience
Description
KAIWA NO SATO This old house is an indigo mansion built in the first year of the Bunsei era (1804) during the heyday of indigo. The main house and the sleeping area (a barn where indigo was stored) have been demolished due to aging, but the historic living room and garden have been preserved to allow guests to experience a little bit of that time, and it is used as a farmhouse inn. In the old days, "Indigofera" grew on the fertile land of the Yoshino River basin in Tokushima Prefecture, bringing great wealth to Tokushima Prefecture (Awa Province). Ancient documents on indigo, including cultural properties, are also available for viewing. Enjoy the charm of that era and Indigofera. ==== Feel free to pick and eat seasonal fruits and vegetables from the adjacent fields. * Please enjoy as many figs as you like in summer and autumn. Fruit examples: Spring: sweet summer Summer: Watermelon, Green Bowl (Melon) Fall: figs, pomegranates, sweet potatoes [Vegetables example] Spring: potatoes, corn, bamboo shoots, butterbur sprouts, konjac Summer: Japanese ginger, bell peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, chili peppers, cucumbers Fall: potatoes, konnyaku Winter: Daikon radish * Please contact us in advance if you have any requests, as the harvest and timing may change depending on the weather. ==== The space You will stay in a guest room in an old house built in the late Edo period, which has been cherished by the family for generations. In the guest rooms of the prosperous era of indigo, with a sukiya-style study, the ceiling and pillars are made of Japanese cypress, the floor and fixtures are lacquered, and the 6-tatami (9.7 ㎡) and 8-tatami (14.5 ㎡) rooms use elaborate nail coverings, and in the summer, you can feel the nostalgic atmosphere of the past using the hanging mosquito nets. Please note that the two rooms are only separated by a sliding door, not completely separate, and there is only one air conditioner. Meals are not provided, so please cook in the kitchen or eat out. Delivery is also available. Barbecue equipment can also be provided, so please request in advance. For cooking ingredients, we recommend the nearest farmer's direct store, "Hyakujuichi", and the "Awa Food Museum", which offers agricultural and marine products and prepared products from all over Tokushima Prefecture. (There are no stores within walking distance, so you need to travel by car) ==== Guest access Bedroom, kitchen, shower room, washroom, toilet * The bath (bathtub) is located in the main house, so we will show you how to use it. Please warm up in the bathtub, especially on cold days. ==== Other things to note = For those who would like to experience the menu = There are shops and facilities in Ishii Town where you can have various experiences. All of these places are less than a 10-minute drive from the house, but due to the preparations on the receiving side, please make a reservation (at least 3 days in advance) if you wish to use them. If you book less than 3 days in advance, we may not be able to accommodate your request. For those interested in■ Indigo In Ishii Town, there is the "Awa Indigo Factory", where you can see the whole process from indigo cultivation to making the indigo dyeing material, Sukumo, and indigo dyeing.
