Description

Featured in the Feb. 25th, 2022 designer home issue of the LA Times, this small back house was designed to bring the outdoors in, without sacrificing privacy. With raised windows looking onto the trees, and a large french door leading to a private garden patio, this spacious, light-filled gem is a peaceful oasis in a perfect location. The space This guest suite is a second house situated at the back of our property in the Venice-Mar Vista area of West Los Angeles. The rental shares one wall with a room we use, but soundproof and private. The living room has a vaulted ceiling with a ceiling fan, a smart TV, and a comfortable sofa bed. The adjacent kitchen is fully equipped with almost anything you need to enjoy a nice meal al fresco on your patio, or along the kitchen bar counter that seats 4. There are two small rooms for sleeping upstairs. One is a loft with a 1/2 wall that overlooks the living room. These rooms have slanted ceilings with the shortest point of the ceiling at the doorways, which measures under 6 feet. If you are taller than 5'11 be prepared to duck a bit upon entry:-) The bathroom is downstairs off the living room and has a shower/bath combination, sink, and toilet. The many windows give a feeling of spaciousness, without sacrificing privacy. The garden has a wooden fence and a smaller gate that separates the front and back house gardens. There are two nonallergic dogs that live in the front house and could be in the adjacent yard. Our garden is a natural habitat for LA, so there may be critters, birds, insects, squirrels, and Opossums, etc. The neighbor's cat, Izzy likes to visit our back garden. Please do not feed her, or let her in the house, as this is an allergy-free rental. For these reasons, please do not leave for the day, leaving the French doors or laundry closet door open! We have beach towels, A beach umbrella, boogie boards, etc. Please feel free to ask me for anything you would want, as I may have it! Note: If you plan to bring an active toddler or young child, you will need to monitor them as there are wooden stairs and a half-wall loft. We have a pack-n-play, a short feeding chair, and a portable baby gate for your use when requested. We are open to long-term stays, but would need a signed lease and Identification verification. Please reach out and enquire if you are interested in this furnished rental for over 28 days. Guest access Guests have access to the rental, back garden, all-in-one washer/dryer, drying rack, and entry. This unit has a Yale smart lock for entry to the unit that is code/time specific for each guest. The main gate to the property also has a digital entry code. You will receive an email from me prior to your trip on how to access the unit with your codes for entry. Other things to note Street cleaning days are Weds (across the street) and Thursday (house side of the street), from 10 AM to Noon. Park across the street the evening prior if you will not be leaving before 10 am. The street has free parking and is generally easy to get, often in front of the house. While here, reach out if you run into any rare parking challenges, as there may be a solution I can help with. When you are here, surrounded by vegetation, it is very peaceful, so you may feel there is nobody around, however, there are neighbors and with all the windows open, you may hear them/us and they may hear you. Because sound rises, you will hear us if we are using our deck and if you have your doors and windows open. However, the rental has double-pane windows that will block out noise when closed. I will notify you if we plan on having any larger gatherings in our yard, which is very very seldom. This space was designed by an eco architect who considered window placement, tree canopy, etc for energy efficiency. Most of the year, the windows are all that's needed to keep the space cool and comfortable. The space also has a mini-split heat/air conditioning system in the main living area. Rarely does this not suffice, however, the enclosed upstairs room is at the farthest access point. For those rare extreme weather days, I also have a free-standing, heater, fan, and a portable air conditioning tower for that room. Please ask after check-in, if needed. This space accepts 5 guests with the idea of Families with children. If you are five adults, this is a small but spacious back house with two small sleeping rooms, one a loft, upstairs, and a sofa bed in the main area. It is probably more suited for 4 adults.
