Lady of the Lake " is a classic 1901 lakehouse with water views from every room. Facing south on 70 ft. of deep West Caroga Lake waterfront, the delightful, comfortable, three-season house is charmingly furnished with cottage antiques by designer/builder owners whose work is featured in numerous interior design publications. The space A large, two-level screened porch spans the front of the house just above the lake, creating a spectacular waterfront great room with areas for dining, games and sleeping as well as relaxing in rockers, a glider, a wicker chaise and a hammock. The living room's deep sofa, cushioned daybed and wicker chairs face a stone-backed Jotul woodstove-fireplace. An entertainment armoire houses a 32" Vizio HD smart TV with basic Vizio streaming channels, Netflix and Amazon Prime; VCR, DVD and stereo with a jack for connecting your digital devices to the indoor and porch speakers. (Please be aware that sounds travels over water and requires judicious use of volume controls). There's a piano and sheet music, a vintage dollhouse and other children's toys, and a collection of regional guidebooks, cookbooks, children's books, fiction and poetry. Videos, CDs, games and art supplies are provided. A skirted farmhouse sink with drainboards enhances the vintage charm of the modernly equipped gourmet kitchen. A gas fireplace stove heats the entire house in spring and autumn, while taking the chill off any cool summer mornings. Appliances include a dishwasher, full-sized refrigerator, electric range, microwave, water filter and all small appliances. Ample cabinets with butcher block counters are well-stocked with good pots, sharp knives, baking pans, handy gadgets, cleaning supplies, attractive tableware and serving pieces. The kitchen's round pedestal dining table seats 4-6, with tables for 4 and 8 on the porch. Steps from the kitchen, there's a brick patio with gas grill, a deck with seating and a tabletop gas firepit for s'mores, and a gas patio heater. Three upstairs bedrooms all have lake views. The main bedroom features an enchanting king bed with silk-leaved birch branch headboard, five windows looking out on the water, pale blue beadboard walls, a sitting area with a comfortable down-filled French bergere chair and ottoman, and a mahogany deck overlooking the lake, furnished with outdoor wicker chairs, sofa and chaise. There is also a floral wallpapered queen bedroom and a third bedroom with two full beds. Downstairs, there are twin long daybeds in the living room and entrance sunroom, and a full bed on the porch. The beds have charming vintage metal bed frames, comfortable memory-foam mattress toppers, down duvets, quilted coverlets, fleece and wool blankets and a choice of down and fiberfill pillows. As is customary in our region (due to the environmental restrictions of country lakefront plumbing on our ability to provide onsite laundry service), you provide sheets, pillowcases and towels. There is a clothesline for sun-drying swimsuits and towels. Lady of the Lake has a full bath on the first floor, a half-bath upstairs, and an enclosed outdoor shower. The bright, mirrored, first floor bathroom has ample storage including a marble wrap-around ledge, a large cabinet for towels and toiletries, and a sink set in an antique dresser with a secret “treasure” drawer for kids to discover and select a toy to keep. There is a subway-tiled tub with shower. Amenities include a hairdryer, curling iron, magnifying mirror, and first-aid kit. The upstairs half-bath is attached to the queen bedroom and also accessible, via a hallway entrance, to the king and full bedrooms. But everyone’s favorite is the outdoor hot shower behind the house, with views of lake and woods. Lady of the Lake is furnished almost entirely with antique furniture from the golden age of summer cottages, circa 1880-1960. Lovely vintage paintings of flowers, lakes, and "ladies of the lake" adorn the walls. Custom lighting on dimmer switches ranges from Italian tole chandeliers and antique lamps to Japanese lanterns and a disco ball. The waterfront is clear, deep and hard-bottomed; the 330 acre lake is excellent for swimming, boating, fishing, and water skiing. Furnished decks both at water-level and cantilevered over the lake have beautiful views. Two sit-in kayaks and a sit-on kayak are included. The dock has room for your own small boat. A connecting channel lets you explore East Caroga Lake as well. Canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, and pontoon boats can be rented at the local marina. The grounds include a sloped lawn with perennial border and hammock. A woodland hillside walk of 60 stairs leads to parking above for three cars on a quiet unpaved lane. Country roads take you to nearby hiking trails that lead to hidden lakes and panoramic views from a mountain lookout tower. Guest access You are renting the entire house and property, including 70 feet of private waterfront, dock, decks, kayaks. The only areas off-limits are the attic and the the garden shed. Other things to note A reminder that there are 60 steps down (and back up!) to the house - so if mobility is an issue, this is likely not the house for you. You provide linens and bottled water. For those with young children: the waterfront is deep - over an adult's head within a few steps. Children must be supervised at all times. The upper level of the screened porch does not have a rail to protect toddlers from going over the 2-3 ft. to the lower level. There is plenty of space for them to play on the lower level. ABSOLUTELY NO DIVING FROM THE DOCK.
