Description

Cozy home in the middle of 70 acres of woods and on the banks of the tranquil upper Choptank River. Stone wood-burning fireplace. Two-story great room. Screened porch and deck with views of the river. Deep fresh water and pier for swimming or fishing. The space A long quiet sandy dirt road takes you down to the river where our 3 bedroom, 2 bath house sits surrounded by 70 acres of trees. A stone wood-burning fireplace offers warmth and ambiance in a comfy two-story great room with dining area and open kitchen. Enjoy cookouts and cocktails in the screened porch or on a large deck with views of the river. Sit in the sun and swim off the pier in deep fresh water (no nettles). Take the two kayaks up or down river to see all kinds of wildlife. Your dog can jump into the river right from the bank. End your day with an outdoor shower (available April - Oct) with views of the woods. Very private and peaceful. No smoking in the house or anywhere on the property outside. The reason you can't smoke either inside or out is that the house is so tightly constructed that the smell from your clothes stays trapped inside. Not only is that unpleasant but it's very easy to tell if you've broken this rule. Thank you for understanding. The entire house is wired for sound and connected to a CD player so bring your CD's or plug in your phone. There is WiFi. We have a small TV in the living room for streaming You're in the middle of 70 acres of woods which means there is loads of wildlife, including wild turkeys, deer, turtles, and beavers, as well as insects, including bees, ticks, spiders, ants and mosquitoes. We haven’t seen a snake in years because they prefer the deep woods, but they are there. An exterminator treats our house on a regular basis but you may see the occasional ant inside. If you think you might be uncomfortable in this setting, this is not the property for you. On the other hand, if you love being in the middle of a serene woodland setting for a quiet getaway, you’ll enjoy yourself. Also, the river is not a lake (which you can often see through to the bottom). It can be muddy especially after it rains. And there's a difference in what it looks like when the tide goes out compared to when it comes in. When the tide goes out, the river carries mud and plant detritus - this is not pollution. When the tide comes in, the river is free of plant bits. There is fishing all the time on the river and we all swim in it. Also, the river is about 200 feet from the house and is easily accessible from the bank or from the dock. It is tidal and deep so there is a current almost all the time which, depending on your swimming ability, you may consider strong. We provide life preservers. But if you or your kids don't know how to swim, this property may not be a good fit for you. You're welcome to swim at your own risk. At night, it's very dark so be prepared - plan on using your flashlight on your phone. We do not have a snow removal service to plow the road, so If you book at a time when it's expected to snow, we will provide a full refund if you wish to cancel or reschedule. Guest access The whole house is available to you. On the first floor are two bedrooms – one with a queen bed and the other with a double bed – and a shared full bathroom with bathtub/shower combo. On the second floor is the master bedroom suite with a queen bed, walk-in closet, and full bath with bathtub/shower combo. A stacked washing machine and dryer are on the first floor. The entire house is wired for sound and connected to a CD player so bring your CD's or plug in your phone. There is WiFi. Other things to note If you bring your kids and they have not yet learned to swim, please know that the river is close by (about 200 feet from the house) and is very accessible. Cell service is available through Verizon and AT&T but not through T-Mobile. However, we do have a landline and you can buy a phone card at the 7-Eleven by the Greensboro exit off 404. It's called a BOSS card. A $5 card is good for about 350 minutes of talk. You can also make 800 long-distance calls from the landline. Our CD player is wired throughout the whole house so bring your CD’s or plug in your phone. We have WiFi and a small TV in the living room for streaming. Absolutely no smoking anywhere on the property - inside or out. A maximum of one dog is allowed. Please let me know if you are bringing a dog. We provide a selection of coffee and tea. There's a propane grill on the deck for grilling. We do not have a plow service for our nearly 1 mile long driveway. So if you book during the winter season and it snows, you can cancel your reservation anytime and we will give you a full refund. If you bring a small dog, please be aware that there are hawks in the area that hunt small prey. That sounds creepy and we've never had a problem, but it's better to be aware!
