Taragala place is a peaceful location with great views overlooking the Kalamatiya bird sanctuary and therefore perfect for bird lovers. It is also an easy ten minute walk to a beautiful pristine beach. Ideal for a family of 4 with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and kitchen. Can be used by 2 couples but access to the bathroom is through the first bedroom. The 2 rooms are interconnected by a lockable door. Book separately, or book with Taragala Place Chalet No.2 for group bookings. The space Taragala Chalet No.2 is good for couples, solo adventurers, families - especially kids, and it is pet friendly. The chalet has a fridge, gas cooker, microwave oven, cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery for self-catering. The chalet is one of two, set in a beautiful large garden of an acre, next to a bird sanctuary. The chalet itself contains a large bedroom, a smaller interconnected room with a additional double bed and a shared bathroom, an additional outdoors shower, fully equipped kitchen with a fridge and a wide veranda which is perfect for relaxing. The property extends over an acre with a large frontage towards the bird sanctuary. Guests are welcome to use the whole property with mindfulness, so that guests in the other chalet are not disturbed. The garden is full of coconut and other fruit trees such as lime, pomegranate and king coconut, which the guests are welcome to make use of during their stay. Also in the garden is a separate dining pavilion and a well appointed second pavilion perfect for sitting, bird watching, and reading or simply snoozing. The scenic village of Gurupokuna, Kalamatiya, where the chalets are located, is an interesting and friendly place where most of the villagers are fishermen by trade. The beaches are pristine and private and the village is spotted with freshwater lakes and lagoons and charming Buddhist temples. If you want to experience authentic village living this setting is perfect. There are well stocked grocery shops full of fresh local produce, and of course plenty of fish to purchase. The local harbour is a 15 minute walk. If you don't want to bother making your own food there are restaurants providing both local and international fare within walking distance. My cousin makes excellent Sri Lankan food to order which can be served at our dinning pavilion overlooking the bird sanctuary. We can easily cater to vegetarian guests. I can arrange bird watching trips in the area guided by an expert, boating trips in the lagoons, harbor visits to watch the fisherman bring in their daily catch, visits to nearby Rakawa beaches to watch the turtles lay their eggs at night, and also day trips to the national parks at Yala and Udawalawa. If you are coming from Tangalle turn off at the 214 km post. The road to the right called "hungama-gurupokuna road" leads to the village. Guest access Guests are welcome to use to the entire property, the only area that is private is my little chalet at the far end.
