High Mountain Stone Cottage in the Cederberg

Surely the highest cottage, at 1200m altitude, in the Cederberg with spectacular views of the Koue Bokkeveld and the Cederberg. It is set against a mountain peak surrounded by pristine Cape flora. A place of retreat and deep silence. The cottage, with its beautiful woodwork and stonework, belongs to another era. Recently it was renovated with a larger kitchen and a braai room as shelter from summer southerly winds and to catch sun on winter afternoons. A private rock pool is 150m from the stoep The space The cottage is one large room with two wooden 3/4 daybeds with good mattresses and linen. There is a hotbox fireplace in the corner for the cold winter nights, and plenty of wood. The kitchenette has a small fridge and two hot-plates. The bathroom has an indoor shower and there is also an outdoor double bath on the verandah. There is a back braai-room and sun-room with a built-in braai, table and chairs, and a bed. There is a rock-pool about 10 min from the cottage, and a spring with a picnic spot about a 50 minute walk down a steep jeep track. The peak of Middelberg (1565m) is towers about the spring and is a 3-4 hour walk to the top. The mountain immediately behind the cottage at 1417m is takes about an hour to climb, and there are also many shorter walks in the area. Guest access The farm is at the top of Middelberg Pass which is 18km on the R303 outside Citrusdal. With a normal car, you can reach the manager's house near the farm entrance. If you have a vehicle with some clearance, continue to the main house at the top of the hill. From here we will direct you to your cottage. If you have a vehicle with reasonable clearance, you can drive to the cottage. If not, you can leave your car at the manager’s house or the main house and we can take you in a bakkie. Other things to note Please no dogs. There is good cell phone reception. The price listed includes: airbnb commission, and SA VAT of 15%. There are no further service fees. The central Cederberg with the Cracks and Arch are about one and half ours away, so this is not an ideal base to explore the central and northern regions of the Cederberg.
