Our welcoming split-level home has a perfect guest room for you to relax and sleep in, living room, kitchen to share and a nice Calico cat. Safe, quiet pocket neighborhood, tree lined and not far from freeways (80 & 580), and a mile from BART. Ample safe parking on our street makes it easy too if you are driving. Our town has a lot more going for it than some people realize. Having previously lived in San Francisco and Oakland, we have found our home, and neighborhood, to be a very nice peaceful oasis in an otherwise busy area of the Bay. Although we are too new of homeowners to have perfectly manicured yards, our home's interior reflects our broad interests and enjoyment of the Bay Area. Our guests are welcome to enjoy the house; their comfortable private room, our shared areas which include the kitchen, dining room, bathrooms and living room. Come and go as you please while staying over, you'll have an access key to the house to use. As Air B&B hosts, we are sociable people, while being mindful of other's own approachability. We take our cue from our guests for level of interaction. When we can advise, assist or basically enjoy conversing, we will. We're also OK with saying; "here's the key, there's the fridge, make yourself at home," and leaving it at that. Most weekdays we are both at work during the daytime. You set the tone; we respect you as a guest, just as you respect us as being hosts. Our neighborhood was built around 1940 before the town's war efforts took over the town. Unlike many other areas built on a grid-system, our enclosed neighborhood is tree-lined, kids freely play outside, we know all of our neighbors, and our street perfectly represents the diversity of the Bay Area. BART is a mile away (if walking, it is roughly a 20 minute walk for most people), and the civic center and main library are very close (1/3 mile). It is a bedroom community for the most part, however, so there are not too many attractions or restaurants too close unless using a car. The town of Richmond (like other large towns in the Bay Area, Oakland being a good example), has both great areas, and not so great areas. Whereas we are fortunate to be in a really great neighborhood, some areas of Richmond are much more "rough around the edges" which comes as a surprise to some people occasionally who are not accustomed to large urban areas. One mile away (roughly a 20 minute walk for most people) is the Richmond BART station, which is also an Amtrak Train stop too. Less than 1/3 of a mile from our home are the frequent bus lines on MacDonald Ave. (AC Transit lines: 72M, 677, 800). The 80 freeway and the 580 freeway are about equal distant from our home. (about 1.3 miles from either). If you are unacquainted with the area, we will happily provide information/advice on transportation in the area. A quick note about BART; it is an excellent way to get to destinations all over the Bay Area, but does charge by distance. San Francisco, for example, on BART from Richmond takes about 35 minutes once you are on the BART train, and costs $4.50 each way, per person, to get to SF's downtown Powell Street station. We do have a 10-year old Calico cat. Although not a lap cat, she will want to say hello and show you where her treats are kept. We keep our home as free of cat hair as possible, but if you are allergic, it might not be the best place for you to stay.
