Middle Ninfa bunkhouse is located on a small farm in historic and beautiful landscape in south-east Wales, within the Brecon Beacons National Park and close to the market town of Abergavenny, famous for its food, cycling, arts and many other festivals. The space The name Ninfa means cottage of the the charcoal burners in old Welsh as the manufacture of iron was the main local industry when it was built 3 centuries ago high on the old parish road from the village of Llanfoist over the Blorenge mountain to Blaenavon. Its 23 acres of broadleaved woodland and flower rich meadows lie within the Brecon Beacons National Park on the edge of the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site and immediately below the Punchbowl lake and veteran beech woodland owned by the Woodland Trust. The farm is situated in an International Dark Sky Reserve and is an excellent site for stargazing. It is also very quiet at night - other than owls and foxes! Guest access The bunkhouse accommodates 6 people in a converted barn adjacent to the main farmhouse. It is fully self-catering with gas cooker, microwave, fridge, shower and toilet. The ground floor comprises the lounge and dining area with double divan and heating from a coal effect electric fire set in a stone fireplace. Upstairs on a mezzanine floor reached by a spiral staircase there are four single beds. Note that guests need to bring sleeping bags or duvets, towels and other linen. Guests have the use of the seating area beside a small pond and stream outside. There are also 23 acres of mixed woodland, orchards, gardens and grazing fields on the farm which guests can share with campers There are a number of excellent walks direct from the farm on the mountains above. Printed guides are available for loan. Other things to note The farm is located up a 1 km steep winding and narrow lane, unsuitable for camper vans. Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead. There are ducks sharing the pond, sheep and a horse on the farm. Some guests may find the property a little chilly in winter. it is 400 years old, high ceilinged and not insulated to Passivhaus standards! If you feel the cold delay your trip till warmer months, otherwise bring jumpers and warm sleeping bags.
