HAMLET DOWNS COUNTRY ACCOM - The Queen Suite - Private and secluded, this 1 bedroom apartment is perfect for couples seeking full relaxation and rejuvenation. We can cater to your gourmet needs from ala carte breakfasts and dinners served directly to your room. Set on 36 acres of beautiful property, it's the perfect place to relax and unwind. Wander around the Derwent, National Park hikes, take in the sites of the region and enjoy it all. A perfect place for couples to relax & fall in love. The space 'Prospect' now known as Hamlet Downs Country Accom was built in the late 1890's by George and Annie Browning. Their sons, Walter & Rupert worked the farm and took about establishing hops and small fruit such as currents, raspberries and in the early days strawberries. Life on the farm was hard work. With the original front four rooms remaining both with 2 original fireplaces, and original 'formal' lounge room also remains. The workshop and laundry building are original and remain today, although the original laundry was complete with a wood burning copper. Though today, many alterations and refurbishment works have been taken place throughout the decades. There was always people staying at 'Prospect' back in the day, especially during the hop and fruit picking seasons. They used to sleep in the kiln during hop drying to keep the fires burning. There was a a small dairy, garage, woodsheds and the hop kilns; of which 2 remain today and the 2 Hop 'Pickers Huts' still in place as they were. One room in the hop kiln was completely dark with a dirt floor and was always cool even in the hot weather, this is where meat was kept before the days of refrigeration. Scott and Janet remember their Mother, Jillian saying they spent hours, days and weeks toiling cutting and burning bracken ferns on the hill, and although it was hard work she had a wonderful time in her childhood growing up at Prospect. The farm was self sufficient with dairy cows and cattle, draught horses, sheep, pigs, poultry of turkeys ducks, geese and chickens and numerous fruit trees and large vegetable gardens near the dam and there was always a dog or two and a cat. Guest's staying in this suite have full privacy and their own entrance, lounge area and ineternal dining space, private full bathroom/shower and private front deck seating area and al fresco dining table. The Queen Suite has a small kitchenette complete with mini bar fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and flat press toaster. Due to its age it does not having kitchen sink/washing facilities though housekeeping will collect and replace all your crockery and cutlery daily.... BUT with ala carte breakfast and dinners available to be ordered and delivered direct to your room, why bother with all that when you can fully enjoy, relax and gourmet your way to the perfect holiday break.
