Note: This space has a separate entryway and patio and beautiful views of the lake. -Common Area: Garden-level common room/den sleeps an additional 2 guests on a new queen-size pull-out couch (a great space for kids!). Designed specifically for this stunning location it was built from wood milled directly from the site and situated to take full advantage of the dramatic views while remaining low impact in its profile. So peaceful and inspirational for reflection and creativity. It's where I write my plays! There is something deeply human and naturally soulful about the space. It is a very finely built home and yet it has the warmth and connectedness to the environment of a lodge. Secluded, yet centrally located with easy access by day trips to everything Maine has to offer. There are two kayaks and fishing poles for exploring the pond and taking advantage of its great fishing. The house has a large deck that guests can step directly out onto, enjoy the amazing view of the pond, and cook on the Vermont Castings Barbeque Grill. There is a great general store called Tobey's less than a mile away that is fully stocked to meet practically every need for guests, including live lobsters. It is open from 6 in the morning until 9 at night. A great resource that I use year round. Guests also have access to many other lakes and ponds in the Lakes Region of Central Maine. A 20-25 minute country drive brings one to Waterville and Augusta, two great places to shop, dine and hear live music and see movies. Belfast, an historic oceanfront town with a wonderful creative culture and amazing restaurants and Natural food co-op, is 35 minutes away. The roads surrounding the pond and leading North provide great routes for biking, walking and sight-seeing as they wind through the woods and fields. The many ridges provide amazing uninterrupted views that stretch as far as the western Maine mountains and New Hampshire border. I interact as much or as little with guests as they want me too. Some guests just really want to get away from it all, including me, and ask very specific questions about their needs. I answer these questions immediately. Other guests really enjoy getting to know more about my house and me and I have had lovely dialogues and developed friendships with many of these guests. The truth is, I love sharing my house and am happy and honored to answer any and all questions that they may have. As a Theater person, I am also community minded and always eager to meet and converse with creative people and make new friends. I love the fact that many guests feel a sense of investment in their time at my house and share that with me. It is a very rewarding feeling. What I love about my neighborhood is that it's so peaceful and quiet, dominated by nature and wildlife, and yet there is a neighborhood and very friendly rural small town community surrounding my house. There is a very picturesque, antiquated downtown with a florist's shop and old Grange Hall, as well as a small post office. Tobey's General Store is a great place to chat with local people while picking up groceries. It's not hard to feel right at home very quickly. There really isn't any handy public transportation as my house is set in a very rural location. It's very easy to get to my house, however, with access to Rte 3 and other major roads, so it is a great place to use as a homebase for more extensive trips and sight-seeing, as well as a great place to just stay put. My house has a really amazing kitchen and its open design makes it a great place to cook and entertain while still being part of the group. Most of my guests love using the kitchen and do a lot of cooking at the house. Food and cooking are two of my great loves and I designed my house to accommodate this passion. There is also a clawfoot bathtub in the loft bathroom that is a true pleasure and one of my own favorite indulgences. Lots and lots of books to read in the house, as well.
