This a great base for sightseeing or simply getting away from it all and unwinding. Some of Cornwall’s most stunning beaches are on the doorstep, including Kynance Cove, Poldhu Cove, Coverack and Cadgwith Cove. Set in peaceful countryside, this comfortable, semi-detached bungalow, accessed by a private drive, is a 10-minute walk from the sleepy, working fishing village of Cadgwith. It is like stepping back in time, and the village is the setting for ’The Fisherman’s Apprentice’ TV series. The owner, who lives on-site, is a local fisherman and will be happy to catch fresh fish for guests. Take the South West Coastal Path around the Lizard Peninsula, steeped in maritime and smuggling history, walk the thick harbour wall at Mullion (film set for the Poldark TV series) or visit Gunwalloe Church, which dates back to the 13th century. The Lizard Peninsula is the UK’s most westerly point, with the lighthouse and heritage centre open daily. Climb to the top of the 260-year-old tower for unrivalled views. A visit to nearby Roskilly’s Farm is a must to sample their truly delicious ice cream and fudge, as well as the National Seal Sanctuary at Gweek and the beautiful River Helford and creeks, which are the setting for the Daphne Du Murier novel ’Frenchman’s Creek’. The historic town of Helston is home to Flambards Theme Park, which is a great day out for the whole family and holds regular firework displays during the summer.
