Step into a world where sparkling Akaroa Harbour is just steps away — Pīwakawaka Retreat, a sun-drenched haven where everyday worries drift away. Our waterfront sanctuary offers both relaxation and adventure: explore rock pools, swim at the sandy beach, fish on the harbour, or simply unwind on the deck as the sun sets. Whether exploring Banks Peninsula or watching the light shift over Purple Peak, our place, is the perfect place to slow down and connect with nature. The space Space & Comfort Inside, a recently updated, sunny open-plan living area flows seamlessly onto a spacious deck with spectacular harbour views. As the weather shifts, so does the scenery — an ever-changing vista right before your eyes. For cooler evenings, especially during a classic South Island winter, a powerful heat pump and crackling log burner create a warm, cosy atmosphere. Settle in with a book, board game, or movie on the Wi-Fi connected smart TV. When it’s time to rest, three comfortable bedrooms await: a spacious king, a serene queen, and a fun bunk room. The king and queen beds have electric blankets for extra warmth on chilly nights. Fresh sheets and towels are provided for two guests as standard; if you’re travelling with more, just let us know and we’ll have everything ready for your arrival. Good to Know Layout: The house has stairs up to the entrance and internal stairs between the living area and bedrooms (see photos). Toilet: In the style of a classic Kiwi bach, the toilet is in its own private room, just outside the main bathroom door. It’s fully undercover and only a single step away. Families with toddlers: The deck has glass balustrades and a safety gate, but the layout may not be ideal for very young, mobile children. Please feel free to ask if you have concerns. Guest access During your stay, you will have complete and private access to the entire property. We invite you to treat this waterfront sanctuary as your very own. Other things to note Make Yourself at Home Upon Arrival: Hot Water - Simply flick the switch in the hot water cupboard (it's clearly labelled). It heats up in about 10 minutes. Heating - The heat pump remote is on the wall below it. Turn it on and the place will be warm and toasty in no time. For extra ambience, feel free to set up the log burner. Entertainment & Staying Connected: Internet - High-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the house. You'll find the network name and password in the welcome folder. TV & Movies - The Smart TV is logged into our guest Netflix account for you to enjoy. You can also stream your own favourite shows or movies from your phone or tablet using Chromecast. Music - For a break from screens, feel free to browse our collection of CDs and enjoy some music.
