Mataia Homestead is an historical homestead located on a 1400ha unique combination of a working sheep and beef farm and private nature reserve on the beautiful Kaipara Harbour. Surrounded by 5 acres of beautiful gardens including large productive vegetable gardens and a heritage fruit orchard. Mataia is the perfect retreat for families and large groups wanting peace and quiet in a stunning rural location. The space Wide sweeping lawns, large decks, covered verandahs, small nooks and crannys to tuck away in - Mataia has it all covered indoor and out. Snuggle up in the library with a good book, flex your fingers at the baby-grand piano in the music rooms, or just stretch out on the couch in the afternoon sun. The fully equipped kitchen features a full oven, microwave and dishwasher so you can cook up a storm during your stay. There is also a BBQ available for your use. In winter all beds are fitted with electric blankets and there is a very efficient wood burner in the main living area. There are 6 bedrooms (5 upstairs and 1 downstairs) sleeping up to 12 people in total, with two and a half bathrooms. Guest access Mataia is a nature-lovers haven. As well as being surrounded by beautiful gardens, there are a number of short and long walks through the 400 hectare private conservation reserve which is made up largely of coastal native forest margin and salt marsh wetland. This area is a great place for bird-watchers and boasts rare populations of Fernbird, Banded Rail and North Island Brown Kiwi and is host to a large number of other native bird species. (Please note walking tracks are closed during the wet months from the end of May until the start of November) Other things to note Please note - there are two ponds and a stream in the gardens surrounding Mataia Homestead so those with young children will need to ensure that they are supervised around these areas.
