Vakthusøya - the old house at the small island

Vakthusøya is an island, about 150 meters from Henningsvær, where you use a small motorboat for access. Parking is approx. 100 meters from the floating dock by boat. Gammelgården is the place if you like an idyllic place on an island, very quiet and at the same time a few minutes boat ride from the famous fishing community Henningsvær. You will be staying in a small single dwelling with "soul", amazing views and an excellent starting point for all the activities in the area. The space My great-grandfather got a deed on the island in 1895 and started a fish farm, where fish was bought and processed in all varieties - Fresh, salted and smoked fish were the products, in addition to cod liver oil and other by-products. Oldefar won a prize in Paris in 1905 for the best medicine robbery! The island was permanently inhabited until about 1960, when grandfather and grandmother moved to Henningsvær when the transportation made it easier. Since then, the island has been used as a resort, although until the late 1970s it was used to dry fish on the beach. The house has 3 bedrooms with beds for 2, of which 2 rooms are on the 2nd floor. 2 of the rooms have a double bed, and 1 room has separated beds (located next to each other). Kitchen is cozy with dining area, without dishwasher. There is a living room with dining table. Bathroom with shower is functional with standard from about 1985. There is a patio by the kitchen, cozy garden with seating on the terrace and outstanding views of Henningsvær and the Vestfjord. The island has Office dock, Nybrygge, Grandma's house, Trandamperi and the Shop. Overall, we now have 19 beds divided at Gammelgården (6), Nybryggen (5) and Grandma's house (8) - all are available on Airbnb, remember to limit the search to the number of beds for each house. Here you can, if desired, gather the large family or other grouping for a unique socialising in a screened environment. We can't guarantee good weather in Lofoten, but we can guarantee you'll get a place to stay you'll soon forget. Guest access Gammelgården is originally a rorbu from the 1800s, and great-great-grandfather and mother took over the place in 1895. Rorbuen was eventually built into a family home with 3 children, and has been used for recreational purposes from the 1960s. You will have the house for yourself, decorated in simple but cozy style. This is a place where you can retreat from busy surroundings, and we think you'll find this special. There are private residential houses on the island with a garden where common neighboring considerations apply, otherwise you can freely explore the island with, among other things, the sea side, Storhaugen with 360 degrees views, the lake root with fishing and swimming opportunity, as well as many other pleasant places. Other things to note Details in the house: ============ General: The house is not insulated inside, so there is a relative listening between the rooms. Exterior doors: Bees are kept closed, to avoid coming in flies and heat going out (during cool periods). Indoor: Outdoor shoes are not used indoors. Bring wool socks or slippers. Firepit: The fireplace in the living room can be used, it is assumed to be cleaned after use. No other fireplace stoves should be used. Living room & Kitchen: Windows do not let open, air via outside door or other rooms. Washing machine: There is available washing machine in other building. Garden chairs: Folding chairs can place on the terrace/garden or at the kitchen entrance (for morning sun). Upon notice of a lot of wind, the chairs must be merged. Boat Usage: ========= You yourself take the boat to and from Henningsvær, the actual crossing takes 2-3 minutes with the use of the engine. You can also row if you like it, it takes maybe 5 minutes We have life vests, and of course help you initially and along the way if needed. Note that there is large high tide difference (over 3 meters) so if you mislay the boat and are away from it for a while you risk it hanging in the air or sunk under a quay. Therefore, please add at the designated floating dock when you are in Henningsvær, and put it out on the drag rope when you are on the island. We can show you this and the simple knot you often use to attach the boat. The boat shall not be added to any place other than designated, or used for anything other than travel to and from the island without written consent.
