Our 35 acres is home to our small herd of dairy Camels & sweet donkeys, has old homestead buildings, a beautiful creek, and amazing views! Stay in our hard-sided yurt, meet the camels and get a farm tour! Please know that we are an operating farm. You will find/see camel poop, barn cats roaming, dogs herding, and farmers working :-) The space Our 35 acres is located just south of the little town of Capulin and is surrounded by grazing fields, BLM, and National Forrest. The hard sided yurt (also, known as a hogan) looks out on to the start of Trujillo Canyon and to the fields the camels and donkeys graze. It has a queen size bed and a futon available for sleeping arrangements. All bedding is provided, but please feel free to bring any extra you may like. The yurt is off grid and lanterns are by the side of the bed, by the futon, and by the entrance. There are sensor activated lights outside of the yurt. There is a portable toilet outside, which has plenty of toilet paper, hand sanitizer and a lantern inside as well. There is a table inside and outside. There is a pitcher and basin inside available for any washing needs. A gallon of bottle water is available in the yurt and more can be provided as needed. We provide a camp stove, a cast iron pan and a small pot for cooking, a french press, coffee, a tea pot, a small selection of teas, and mugs for drinking. There is also a small wood stove and a propane heater inside the yurt to help keep you warm during those winter nights. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed at all times. A pet fee of $15 per pet will be collected before your stay. Also, we ask that you do not leave your pet unattended in the yurt. Please let us know when you expect to arrive and we will come out to greet you. Your stay with us includes a farm tour if you are interested in receiving one. We will also have camel milk soaps, camel milk fudge, and other camel products available. Guest access You have complete access to the yurt. Though our camels are very friendly we ask that you do not approach them without one of us present. If you do not respect this request we will not be held liable and will ask you to leave immediately. The Great Sand Dunes National Park is a magnificent national park and is about an 1.25hr drive from here. If you love trains, we are close to Alamosa and Antonito, which both offer scenic train rides. We are an 1.5hr from Wolf Creek for great skiing. If you enjoy fishing you can visit La Jara Reservoir and for the bird watchers you can see the beautiful Sandhill Cranes at the Monte Vista Wetlands in the spring and fall. We are just a little over an hour drive to the Sand Dunes Hot Springs in Hooper and about 1.5hr from Ojo Hot Springs. With very little light pollution the night sky is perfect for star gazing!
