Town End Barn is a spacious apartment in the pretty village of Orton. Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Lake District National park is on the doorstep too. The barn has private entrance, garden, underfloor heating and a well equipped kitchen. The bedroom has a king-size bed. A large sofa bed sleeps extra guests. Children's accessories & toys are available too. Orton has a an award-winning cafe, a friendly pub serving great food, a well stocked shop and even a chocolate factory! The space Town End Barn is the perfect place to relax and explore the stunning Yorkshire Dales, Howgill Fells and Lake District National Park. The barn adjoins Town End Cottage, a traditional 19th-century family home. The nearby towns of Kendal, Sedburgh, Appleby and Penrith offer many attractions whilst Orton, once described by Wainright as one of Westmorland’s loveliest villages, is on the Coast to Coast route and has many walks and cycle routes from the door. The village also hosts a local farmer's market every second Saturday of the month. Overview Town End Barn has been luxuriously renovated. Underfloor heating keeps this generous space cosy in all seasons. The bright open-plan living area comes with a 49 inch smart TV, fibre-optic broadband, piano and fully fitted kitchen. High ceilings and original exposed beams give plenty of character. French doors open onto a private, sunny garden with table and chairs. A separate double bedroom has a king size bed and a dressing table that doubles as a comfortable work-station. The tiled bathroom has plenty of hot water, bath with shower and complimentary toiletries. A large cupboard houses heated airers, an iron and ironing board and many other accessories to make your stay a comfortable one. Lounge area The lounge area is bright and spacious with high beamed ceilings and a vibrant picture gallery. A comfortable 4 seater sofa extends into a sofa bed for extra guests. There is a 49-inch smart TV, a piano and guitar. A large coffee table houses a selection of local guide books and maps, board games and cards. Kitchen area The fully fitted kitchen has an electric oven, ceramic hob, fridge, washing machine, dishwasher and microwave. There is a 4-slice toaster, kettle, cafetière, a full set of pans plus all the crockery, cutlery, glass-wear and cooking utensils needed for a self-catering stay. A 4-seater table and chairs overlook the garden. Coffee, tea, milk sugar and biscuits are provided. Bathroom The tiled bathroom has a bath with shower, toilet and sink. The large Velux window allows for plenty of natural light. A heated towel rail keeps the space cosy and warm. Plenty of towels are provided for your stay plus complimentary toiletries. The large bathroom cupboard houses heated airers for drying clothes, an iron and ironing board, washing basket and pegs plus plenty of space for storing suitcases and bags. Bedroom The generous bedroom has underfloor heating, a king-size bed, feather duvet and a pair of bed side tables and lamps. By day Orton Scar is visible through the large window. At night, black out blinds and lined curtains keep the room dark for a good night's sleep. A dressing table doubles up as a comfortable work station and there is a designated space for hanging clothes. A hairdryer is provided. Outside. French doors from the kitchen open onto an enclosed private garden with mature trees. A variety of birds visit the garden, sometimes a red squirrel and there is even a resident hedgehog! A table and chairs provide seating for outside dining or a morning coffee. Secure storage for bikes and outdoor gear is available.There is a retractable washing line. Access to the property is through the gardens of Town End Cottage, a traditional Cumbrian 19th-century family home. Town End Barn and its garden is separated from the main property by a mature yew hedge and gate. Guest Access The keys to the property are kept in the key safe in the garden of Town End Barn allowing guests an independent stay, though the hosts are on hand to help in any way. Parking is available on the quiet lane directly outside the property. Other things to note: The nearby towns of Penrith and Kendal have all the major supermarkets, independent shops and chains. Sedburgh is England’s official book town and Appleby has a rich history dating back to the 12th century. Our village pub, The George Hotel is warm and welcoming and serves tasty home cooked meals. Plenty of other excellent local pubs are just a short drive away for lunch or evening meals, including the highly recommended Black Bull at Sedburgh, The Black Swan at Ravenstonedale and the community-run Butchers Arms at Crosby Ravensworth. A couple of miles from Orton is the Westmorland family's Tebay services with a high-end deli and gift shop, a butcher's counter and restaurant with stunning views. The Tebay Services Hotel has an excellent restaurant with fresh local produce on the menu. The village of Orton is Just a few miles from the M6, in a peaceful, rural setting.
