The Shanty at Blue Mountain

The Shanty is a one room cottage for a weekend get-away, a short to long-term work assignment or the perfect spot for creative work like composing or writing. It is three miles from access to the Appalachian Trail and is an ideal respite for thru hikers. It is only 30 minutes to Blue Mountain Ski Resort. It is a sunny room just a few steps from a private bathroom in the main house. Views to the west and north of the Blue Mountain. Continental style breakfast is included. The space The Shanty is an ideal spot for a solo traveler or for two friends traveling together. There are two twin beds—a day bed with a trundle bed that rolls out. The Shanty has a desk, a mini fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, electric kettle, bistro table, reading chair, iron, ironing board, and a bureau. It has ample lighting fixtures and electrical outlets. Window AC and a ceiling fan will keep you comfortable in summer and baseboard heat provides warmth in cold months. Continental style breakfast is included. Vegan diets easily accommodated. Breakfast offerings include granola, yogurt, muffins, fruit, toast, juice, and coffee or tea. I serve organic, locally sourced foods. The Shanty is across the road from a dairy farm and is surrounded by farmland. It is very close to the foot of Blue Mountain. Lots of wildlife in the field behind the property--deer, wild turkeys, foxes and an occasional coyote or bear. I have two indoor kitties and also take care of a feral cat colony. All are sweet and well cared for. No cats have been in the guest house in case you suffer from cat allergies. Guest access The bathroom on the first floor of the main house is for your use. It is just 20 steps from the Shanty. The washer and dryer are in the bathroom. I may need to access the washer and dryer during your stay if I am hosting Appalachian Trail hikers who have laundry to do. Other things to note I offer self check in. There are hooks on the wall for hanging coats and clothes. A washer and dryer, toiletries, and a hair dryer are in the bathroom. There is a small TV with Amazon Prime and Netflix.
