Other things to note Fowey is a lively harbour town with a fantastic range of restaurants, bars, pubs and shops. Well known for the yearly Fowey Regatta, where boats from all over the country come to take part in sailing races and a week of events on the water, the town is home to several stylish places to eat and drink. The harbour offers a beautiful and ever changing scene, you can also walk to the stunning beaches along the South West Coast Path. The Fowey Literary Festival also celebrates the many authors who have lived and worked here, such as Daphne DuMaurier and Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch. Hire boats are available from the Town Quay, and are a wonderful way to see the stunning mix of Medieval and Victorian architecture from the water. There are several picturesque walks around the Fowey Estuary and along the South West Coast Path, including the round walk from Readymoney Beach at the end of Fowey to Polkerris via the Gribbin Daymark, a favourite of Daphne DuMaurier. Buses run from the town regularly to other neighbouring areas, such as St. Austell and Truro. There is a circular town bus to help those who are less mobile go up and down the main hill. The driving system in Fowey is primarily one-way, and it is not advised to tow boats through town if you plan on launching from the Slipway.
