Description
Die Bruchmühlen is the only working water mill in Bruchhausen-Vilsen, a village 30 km south of Bremen with the oldest railway museum in Germany. In the rolling landscape around the mill, it is wonderful hiking and cycling. The Bruchmühlen was the economic heart of the monastery Heiligenberg, founded in 1219. The mill was first mentioned in 1370. From that time, walls can still be found in the mill building. The mill house, where the guest rooms are, dates back to the 18th century. The space Das Wandererzimmer “Das Wandern ist des Müllers Lust” is one of the most famous German songs. You just have to look out the window of the room and you know why. A magnificent view over the mill pond, wavy forest edges and waving fields of corn make your thoughts wander to bygone times. The 35-square-meter private room is an en-suite room with a separate seating area, a sleeping area, a dressing room, and a shower room. The room, which also has a rustic look due to the old wooden bindings, is equipped with all modern comforts: smart TV, WiFi, UTP for direct Internet, Senseo and kettle. The mill has a well-equipped kitchen where guests can cook themselves if they wish. The very spacious garden and meadows of the mill offer several sitting areas where guests have a wonderful view of the waterfall and the mill wheel or over the large mill pond and the nature reserve of the ‘Heiligenberg‘ .In summer it is possible to enjoy the silence in a rowing boat with electric outboard motor on the water or to have a romantic drink together. Guests also have access to a well-equipped laundry room with a washing machine, dryer and sink to clean any dirty walking shoes or mountain bike clothing. In 2020, Romke Schievink and Bea Tilanus bought the mill. The first thing they did was restore the water wheel, so that the wheel runs smoothly again and cannot be heard in the guest rooms. Other things to note Guests have free access to the mill area. There is also seating. But guests are kindly requested not to sit at the rotating millels. Children only have access there under the supervision of adults.
