Ironstone Cottage

Fully self catering farm cottage, 2 dble beds each with en suite bathroom. Next door annexe with double room, en suite bath, sitting room. Wifi, aircon, fireplace, barbecue facilities. Linen & towels provided. Firepit. 4x4 necessary The space The cottage is 12 km from town, 8 of which are on a dirt road. 4x4/high clearance definitely advisable as private access is via a dirt road dipping through a dry river bed twice. The cottage is a short distance from the 200 year old Cape Dutch farmhouse and wagon house (currently being restored) and faces up a valley with a firepit overlooking the kloof. The cottage is a former farm labourer's cottage and has just finished being renovated. Access to hiking and mountain biking trails directly from the cottage. Please note that it is a Karoo farm and can experience extremes of weather conditions. There is a resident bat colony which is housed in an external bathouse - they are an endangered species and keep the mosquito and insect population to a minimum, however please do not be surprised to see one flying inside if one is not careful to keep doors and windows closed at night. Nearby is a second, private cottage facing away from Ironstone. Guest access Guests can use the whole cottage, as well as make use of hiking and mountain biking trails, subject to sensitivity to gates and where the cattle are currently grazing. Other things to note Please note that there are around 9km of dirt road to access the cottage, much of which is on a main farm road artery however there are often corrugations.
