Description

Welcome to your private room in an Edwardian townhouse overlooking the garden of our friendly shared home. Please note we have 2 cats, as well as humans living here, and when it rains the sound is loud in this room. We live in a residential suburb of Birmingham. Free street parking although it gets very busy in the evening. Easy train and bus links to the City Centre and Solihull. You can get to the NEC by bus in half an hour or by car in 20 minutes, or by train. The space Your room is a spacious, comfortable twin overlooking the garden, ideal for two friends travelling together. You can use the shared family bathroom next to your room, shared with one other room. This bathroom is modern and complete with a bath and shower. You are also welcome to use the kitchen, dining room and living room if you wish; however, please be aware it is a shared space in our home and will be used by other residents and guests. There is free street parking outside the house, which is outside the clean air zone and we have easy train and bus links to the City Centre and Solihull. You can get to the NEC by bus in half an hour or by car or uber in 20 minutes, or by train, if you change at Birmingham Moor Street then go to Birmingham International from Birmingham New Street. Guest access Please feel free to use the kitchen to make coffee or tea, make breakfast or cook, as long as you clean up after yourself. The household shares the kitchen and all areas of the ground floor. I have two long-term guests right now, Andy and Steve, so they know their way around. Everyone here is friendly and will be happy to help if you need anything. Please make yourself at home. There is a living room and dining room where you can chill out, read a book, chat, or eat with other guests. If your device can't connect to wifi in your room, you will find better reception downstairs, so feel free to use this space. Please use the kitchen table to eat if you plan on cooking, or the dining room in the evening - I work there during the day. Please don't take hot food into the guest bedrooms, as it can make the room smell bad for you or the next guest. There's a patio outside, and you're welcome to sit there. During your stay I work during the day but like to chat with guests in the evenings when I'm around. I also have volunteers here who may meet you if you arrive when I'm not around, and who will be happy to help you if you need anything. Please feel free to ask for anything you need. There may be other guests here when you come as well as one or two volunteers who live here and help around the house. You may be met by one of them if I am not available when you arrive. They are friendly and will be happy to chat with you. Other things to note Please be aware that there is some refurbishment ongoing, at the front of the house. Your room will be clean and comfortable though. I have house cats who love meeting guests. They are not allowed in guest rooms. They don't always agree with this rule though! so please take care to leave your door closed when you're out and not to shut them in your room if they do follow you in. There is wifi available, but the signal may not be great in every room. You can certainly use it anywhere downstairs. Also, if you have a laptop and want fast internet, there is an Ethernet port in your room, next to the wardrobe, that can be used with a standard Ethernet cable. I have a spare one if you need to borrow it please ask me. The human residents as well as myself are Steve, our resident builder, and Andy, our resident chess player and pianist. At times we also have volunteers staying with us for a few weeks and helping me keep on top of the housework and gardening. Free Parking is available on the street, but it can get busy in the evenings and at weekends. You will probably find a space somewhere on the street but it might not be right outside the house. If it's really busy the station car park is only 5 minute's walk away. It is very easy to get to my place by public transport, please consider this option, especially as Birmingham now has a clean air zone in the city centre, and you may wish to avoid the charges. I'm happy to advise on the best route to where you need to get to, just ask. BIRMINGHAM CLEAN AIR ZONE Please also be aware that Birmingham has put a Clean Air zone in place effective from June 1 2021. It doesn't directly affect our listing location, but if you travel by car into the city centre you might be affected by the daily charges. Please check your route, and consider taking public transport if you need to get into the city centre. I am not allowed to publish the link on the listing but you will be able to find it by searching for "Birmingham Clean Air Zone" where there is a map of the affected area on the council website.
