Grade 11 listed chocolate box cottage, in the picturesque village of Askham, in the Lake District. Easy access to all the Park's mountains, and lakes, with a variety of outdoor activities and village pubs. The space We offer a warm welcome for families or friends to our Grade 11 listed cottage, in the picturesque village of Askham, in the quiet NE corner of the Lake District National Park. We are half way between Ullswater (5miles) and Haweswater (6miles), within easy access of all the Park's mountains, lakes and fells, with a wide variety of outdoor activities and good village pubs close by. Lowther Castle with its gardens, cafe and childrens play castle is a 15 minute walk away. It really is a home away from home, with all you need to create your peaceful and memorable holiday in the Lake District National Park! We have equipped and decorated the cottage for you to relax and unwind in with traditional wooden beams, quirky rooms and fabulous view across the village. We have combined antique and contemporary furniture and paintings in a traditional Lakeland country style. You'll love the stylish master bedroom with kingsize bed, the pretty double room with basin and wardrobe space. A quaint third bedroom has a single adult bed is available on request. Walkers and cyclists can explore the many footpaths and quiet country lanes from our door, without having to use the car. Our scenery is crisscrossed with a patchwork of ancient drystone walled 'driftways' leading down to the meandering River Lowther, or up onto Askham Fell above the village. In 30 mins walk from the house, you'll overlook spectacular views of Ullswater (only 3miles across the fell) and it's surrounding mountains, all the way to the majestic Blencathra in the north. You can also explore a group of prehistoric cairns and standing stones left by Helton's stone age settlers. For families, 2 minutes walk from the house is Askham Open air swimming pool which is great for relaxing in the summer. If you have children to entertain, where better than a pretty mile walk from the cottage across the deer park of Lowther Castle, to the amazing new Lost Castle adventure playground and cafe in the woods behind it. On your way back you'll need to allow time for a drink in either of our 2 great traditional pubs in the village.
