Eleanor's Cabin is the quintessential cabin on the river, a perfect place to relax, with vintage details and cozy down comforters and and your own private view of the Metolius River and Mount Jefferson. This comfortable cabin accommodates six guests in three bedrooms. Two of the rooms feature queen-sized beds and the third room features a twin trundle bed. The best part of staying at House on Metolius is the two-hundred plus acres of private nature reserve . With only a limited number of cabins on the property, you'll find plenty of space to go for a stroll along the river, wander through forest and just relax and enjoy the views. Access to the property is through a locked gate. Only registered guests are allowed on the property. The staff at the House on Metolius is available to answer questions, although we generally like to let our guests relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. House on Metolius is surrounded by millions of acres of wilderness, and there is plenty to do outside: fly fishing, hiking, mountain biking, golf, rock climbing and rafting, just to name a few. Or just put your feet up, relax and enjoy the views. There is a small general store in Camp Sherman—that also makes very tasty sandwiches! House on Metolius is about 2h30m from Portland, 45m from Redmond airpot (RDM), and 25m from Sisters. Air Conditioning During the times with peak temperatures, we install a portable air-conditioning unit in the cabin. Even when the daytime temperatures are above 90F, the nighttime temperatures usually drop down to the 50s, so generally you will only need the A/C for a few hours a day. Fireplace Eleanor's has a large wood burning fireplace, and we provide the wood! During the late summer and early fall, there are times the local fire authorities restrict the use of fireplaces—generally, though, this is the time of year when it is quite warm, in any case. Pets Due to the potential for conflict with wildlife, we do not allow pets on the property at House on Metolius. Smoking House on Metolius is located in a forested area, and many of the structures are wooden cabins, so fire hazard is something that we take very seriously. No smoking is allowed inside any of the buildings, and we ask that guests also avoid smoking in the surrounding forested areas. Smoking is allowed outside, but must be at least ten feet from public facilities, lodges and other facilities. Smoking in a guest room or building will incur an automatic damage and cleaning fee of $250. Fishing The Metolius River is fly-fishing only on this stretch of river. Equipment, flies and fishing licenses can be obtained at the nearby Camp Sherman store, or let us arrange for a full or half day of guided fishing on the property (please give us a few days advance notice to make sure that one of our guides is available). Cell Coverage The Metolius Basin has very limited cell coverage—you’ll typically get one or two bars, and occasionally no coverage at all. Text messages generally work with only one bar, so that is a good option. You can also use WiFi calling when you are on the property.
