Little Bluestem Cottage
Description
Little Bluestem cottage is a cozy retreat surrounded by trees near the shores of Lake Huron by Goderich. Relax by the fireplace, soak in the wood-fired hot tub and explore all the trails for hiking, cycling, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. The space Little Bluestem Cottage was one of the first cottages to be built out of railway cars when this area was still bush at the end of a grass-covered lane. Now a cottage community, Little Bluestem itself has undergone extensive renovations to create a pine-infused sleeping loft, new bathroom and inviting kitchen. The master bedroom on the main floor features a queen bed while the loft features three twin beds for another couple or children. It's so warm and cozy up there! The loft is accessed by a solid, wide ladder and is quite steep. You can also access the loft via outside stairs which are better if you have mobility issues. The cottage is located beside a bush and though it doesn't belong to the cottage, it creates the ambience of being in the woods. Birds, bunnies and deer are frequent visitors to the cottage and the backyard is enclosed by pines, maples, walnuts and birch trees. Sit in the courtyard, admire the fern garden and feel the comfort of a woodshed stacked full of cut wood for the fireplace. It's rustic, peaceful and has a healing vibe. Note: There is now a subdivision with almost a dozen large, stately homes across the road...just so you are aware the cottage is not remote. Guest access A wide, gravelled lane allows for parking of multiple vehicles. The beach is a five-minute walk straight down the road, and includes over 100 steps to reach the water. You can walk around the horseshoe filled with cottages or down Sunset Beach Road to the river under the bridge. The town of Goderich with the Courthouse Square, shops and fine-dining is just a 5-minute drive south. Point Farms Provincial Park with its own gorgeous trails and beaches is a 5-minute drive north. The Maitland Trail, G2G Trails, Benmiller Falls, Livery Theatre, Blyth Festival Theatre and the tourist town of Bayfield are all close by. Other things to note The hot tub at the cottage is wood-fired and we ask you to indicate what days you would like to use it so we can have it warm for you. During your stay, we ensure you have at least one evening in the hot tub. Additional days require extra wood and effort to keep the fire going. This takes some experience so we will work with you to keep the hot tub heated or we charge $25 each day for us to keep it heated. Little Bluestem is an old cottage, with the charm of its history while being modernized for a comfortable stay. Like many cottages, it has a moody septic system so it's a "if its yellow, let it mellow" kind of place. Which is good for our environment, anyway. It's just something you need to be conscious and considerate of.
