Overlooking the Fernkloof Golf Estate in Hermanus, this family home is in a secure golf estate with easy access to beach, town, hikes, markets, wine route etc Guest access Guests get access to the whole house Other things to note The Fernkloof Nature Reserve is offers an unforgettable hiking experience and is only five minutes drive from the centre of Hermanus. The reserve covers an area of 1800 ha in the Kleinrivier Mountains and overlooks Hermanus and Walker Bay, showcasing more than 1500 different species of fynbos that have been collected and identified. A network of trails, neatly maintained so as to cater for all fitness levels, stretches almost 60 km throughout the reserve. During spring 2006, wheelchair-friendly paths were introduced in garden section of the reserve. Now the fragrant and aloe gardens, protea and Erica gardens, medicinal garden and many others are accessible to everyone. Apart from the incredible indigenous vegetation, Fernkloof is also home to a variety of small mammals and antelope, including the shy Cape Grysbok, as well as baboons. Although Fernkloof is not a bird watcher's paradise, there are many different species that dart among the fynbos. The annual Wildflower Festival takes place during September and is a must-visit for all nature lovers. With many floral displays, specimens and a marquee fare the festival is organized by the Hermanus Botanical Society and offers an alternative weekend activity for the entire family. The reserve is an ideal picnic destination, with grassy areas and large trees providing shade. The Fernkloof Farmers’ Market was introduced recently and is open Saturday mornings. The market specializes in organic produce, ranging from fresh fruit and vegetables to homemade jams and olive oils.
