LOCATION and OVERVIEW There is a surprise in store for you when you open the door of this charming 19th century Methodist Chapel to reveal the cool white Modernist interior. Perfect for nature lovers, a highly unusual property in a fantastic location with a charming historic grade ii Listed exterior and, by contrast, a tranquil airy minimalist interior, with double height ceiling and huge windows, filled with light, and yet warm and cosy. This is a unique property. The best of both worlds. Almost 200 years old, the Chapel is a completely separate building (not part of another property) located on the edge of Wing (population 300), a tiny, historic Conservation village in Southern Rutland, with views across open countryside and immediate access to off road walks across farmland. Soak up the peace and tranquility inside this former Chapel whilst enjoying warm modern comfort, in the midst of beautiful rural scenery outdoors. Enjoy the woodburner (laid and ready for you with complimentary full basket of logs etc.) in the evenings spent on the very edge of one of the smallest quietest villages in Rutland. Wing is a tiny village a few minutes drive from Rutland Water with a population of only 300 and is quiet and peaceful all year round. Stay somewhere different. We believe that there is nothing else like this in Rutland. The kitchen is very well kitted out for self-catering or alternatively there are several pubs and other eateries a short distance away. A unique chapel conversion due to it's Modernist interior which won a local design award (George Phillips Award) and was on the cover of, and featured in "Living Etc." the home and interiors Magazine upon it's conversion to a house at the turn of the Millennium (2000) and recently featured on TV. The cleverly designed interior is so calm and relaxing you'll feel on holiday the moment you arrive. Many basics are taken care of for you, with crisp Egyptian cotton linens on the beds and plentiful towels. The main bed has the award winning Emma mattress for a really comfortable sleep. Bathrobes and slippers are provided to help you to relax. The field views in the photos above are what you will experience right outside the Chapel, a few steps from the door will take you to a stile entrance to the closest field. You will feel immersed in nature as soon as you arrive at the Chapel, surrounded as it is by some of the best Rutland scenery, lots of fresh air, birdsong and wildlife. You can see plenty of birdlife from the Chapel itself including red kites. There are some glorious walks to be had from right outside across farmland with public access, with beautiful scenery of open fields, hedgerows and streams. Lyndon Nature Reserve (Rutland Water) is a 5 minute drive away. This property is very rural, quiet and peaceful, with easy access to walks across open countryside and perfect for those seeking a relaxing break to recharge their batteries. Everything that Rutland has to offer along with historic Stamford, and Rockingham Castle is only a short drive away. Uppingham, the closest market town is under a 10 minute drive, Oakham is 10 minutes and Stamford 20 minutes. Burghley House is 30 minutes, and Rutland Water is 5 - 20 minutes depending which shore you visit, or slightly longer to the tip of the Hambleton Peninsula. The closest point on Rutland Water is the Lyndon Nature Reserve, about 5 minutes drive, or you can walk there directly from the Chapel across public footpaths, and it takes about an hour. CLEANING The Chapel is professionally cleaned and sanitised between each guest and is then checked personally by the owners before each guest stay. The Chapel is almost COMPLETELY OPEN PLAN in design – the only internal walls being around the Bathroom! PARKING is on unrestricted very quiet Village Road immediately outside. If you were to have any difficulties parking you can use the Owners driveway, although in ten years as a holiday cottage this has never been necessary as the road is quiet. Mostly local village traffic only. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Built for Methodist villagers in 1841, the building was a Chapel for over 150 years. It was converted to become a home at the turn of the Millennium (2000) and was a private home for 15 years. It has been available to rent as a holiday home since late 2015. There are NO HIDDEN CHARGES if you stay here, just a modest charge for additional logs for the Wood Burner if you use all of those provided free of charge. Everything else is included in the price stated and guests often comment that we've thought of everything. IN MORE DETAIL... The modern conversion retains the original features such as the double height ceiling and four huge arched windows which run from chest height to almost the full height of the building. The interior is completely white. This creates the perfect holiday atmosphere as the space is very light and airy, perfect for a relaxing break, and cleverly makes the most of the space providing 2 bedrooms, bathroom, living area, kitchen and dining area. The Chapel has a lovely relaxing feel to it. Guests often remark on how warm and inviting it feels. This property is highly practical for guests having already been a private residence for several years and is warm and cosy enough to stay in all year round. NEW FOR 2025: is Rointe's advanced artificial intelligence heating system capable of transmitting more heat faster to increase your comfort when staying here, and with touch control panels on each radiator for guests to increase or decrease desired temperature. It even has night and early start modes which gradually decrease or increase the temperature to aid restful sleep and a comfortable awakening. It's optimal design provides balanced warmth quickly, amazing temperature stability and great flexibility to suit your needs when staying. LIVING AREA A large ‘L’ shaped sofa, which seats up to six people provides ample space for you to relax during your stay. We keep the kitchen stocked with some basic essentials such as dishwasher tabs, soap, washing up liquid, salt, pepper, laundry detergent, cleaning products, cooking oil, a first aid kit, and plenty of towels and dish cloths. The strip down the side of the Chapel provides access to the Cycle Store and includes a clothes line. CYCLE STORE: Down the side of the building there is a store which you are welcome to use. It is large enough to comfortably stow away a few bicycles and has a bolted door which can be padlocked to provide security. A padlock is provided. Many guests remark on the homely feel, attention to detail and that everything needed has been thought of. Colin and Samantha have had Airbnb Superhost status ever since joining Airbnb (after completing the first year) and are now experienced hosts They both grew up in Rutland and know the area extremely well. They love sharing the Chapel with guests and making sure that anyone who stays has the best experience possible. Guest access Free Parking immediately outside on the Road is unrestricted. The village is tiny and really quiet so there's rarely a problem with parking. There is no charge for parking. Your car will probably be about 3 or 4 paces away from the front door. The beds are not visible to or from each other when you are in them. THE ENVIRONMENT We are committed to trying to reduce the impact of the Chapel on the Environment as much as possible. We ask guests to help with this by turning lights off if not needed or when going out, by turning heating down when leaving or going out and by recycling etc. New for 2025 is Rointe's advanced artificial intelligence heating system capable of transmitting more heat faster to increase your comfort when staying here, and with touch control panels on each radiator for guests to increase or decrease desired temperature.
