When we first opened our spot we were truly over the hills and far away... now the village has grown around us a bit, but the place can still feel pretty secluded. The architect-designed house mixes inside/outside space with plenty of room for family.. Explore wetland, river and the Langeberg mountains. With plenty of comforts this spot is paradise for children, dogs and a retreat for adults. Guest access Erf 26 Oorkant die Rivier is a tucked away rural retreat but the village of Suurbraak, an old mission station established in 1812, is well worth exploring. 15km from the tourist hub of Swellendam it is close to wine farms, historic buildings, potteries, galleries and nature reserves. Barrydale, also 15 km away is filled with interesting gift shops and delightful restaurants and places to stop for tea. Bring your mountain bikes as The Grootvadersbosch right next door offers some awesome mountain bike trails. See: (URL HIDDEN) Other things to note The road after the river crossing can feel very uneven. It is safe though for even those in small cars as long as you drive slowly. Our swimming pond is not fenced so if you have small children you will need to be watchful. Also the path over the donga at the end of the river is fine for adults, and children will love it, but do keep an eye on them as they may slip on the crossing.
