Description

The Smiddy is a stylish one-bedroom cottage retaining the deep window ledges of old but with a modern open plan layout. This cottage would suit couples or small families looking for a relaxing holiday on an active croft where they can participate in outdoor activities and make the most of the outstanding beauty of the local area. Within about a mile walking distance is the lovely Currie Sands beach perfect for a picnic or a spot of fishing. The space The Smiddy was previously a small byre for housing cattle and Neil’s grandpa’s smiddy for shoeing horses used on the crofts. The byre area has been transformed into a bedroom and a shower room. The smiddy area is an open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room with breakfast bar. The kitchen is well equipped with Oven/hob/fridge/freezer and dishwasher. We also have installed a hot water tap for teas & coffees. A sofa bed is provided in the living area (please request bedding if sofa-bed is required) along with Smart HD TV & free internet. This property is all on one level with deep windows in keeping with the original building. With the thick well insulated walls and the air source underfloor heating this is a warm and inviting house to stay in whether it be winter or summer. Patio doors have replaced the original wooden doors opening out onto its own private outside seating area. Ballymeanach is an owner-occupied croft situated on the beautiful Rhinns of Islay; which is recognised both internationally (Ramsar site) and domestically (SSSI) as a place of importance for the conservation of native flora and fauna. The croft is actively farmed, in a non-intensive, traditional manner and has a growing herd of native Galloway cattle. Over the years some of the buildings on the croft had, unfortunately, fallen into disrepair and so it was decided to regenerate part of the existing steading (comprising a cottage, smithy and barn) by the creation of three cottages to be used for self-catering accommodation; two of the new cottages are one-bedroom, and the third (the barn conversion) is a two-bedroom. Other things to note Please make sure you can get a ferry booking with Calmac prior to booking. Please request bedding for sofa-bed if required and also let us know if a travel cot/high chair is required. Registration Details AR00492F
