The Gamekeeper's Cottage, Rural yet Well Connected

Authentic gamekeeper's cottage set in beautiful grounds in the heart of the countryside. Retains many original features, but will be freshly decorated December 2025. Surrounded by great pubs, restaurants & places of interest for all ages. Pool, table tennis and bar football available by arrangement. The space The cottage was built in 1642, so you can experience the history and charm of an authentic period building, but we constantly keep it fresh and will be undertaking redecoration in December 2025 to ensure you have a comfortable stay. The cottage has two double bedrooms, one of which leads to an additional twin bedroom, and a shower room. There’s a country-style kitchen, a large separate dining room, and living room with wood burner. There’s also a large garden with garden furniture and BBQ for al fresco dining. The layout is as follows: 3 steps to the entrance. Ground Floor: Living room: Smart TV, Woodburner Dining room. Kitchen: Breakfast Area, Electric Cooker, Microwave, Fridge/Freezer, Dishwasher, Coffee Machine, Washing Machine, Tumble Dryer First Floor: Bedroom 1: Kingsize (5ft) Bed, Single (3ft) Bed Bedroom 2: Double (4ft 6in) Bed, Single (3ft) Bed Bedroom 3: 2 x Single (3ft) Beds, (Accessed Via Bedroom 2) Shower Room: Cubicle Shower, Toilet There is plenty of space to park. Guests are given exclusive access to the whole of the cottage. The Game Keeper's Lodge can also be booked to increase capacity to sleep 8 more people. Guest access You will enter the property via the automatic gate and park on the drive. You will have exclusive use of the cottage and your garden and patio (other than when the gardener comes, which is usually on a Wednesday). Other things to note I take pets at my discretion. I charge for dogs so please contact me for rates. Can be booked with the Game Keeper's Lodge, which can sleep up to 8 people. The cottage itself can sleep up to 10, which can be achieved by putting a substantial camp bed and/or mattresses on the floors of the lounge and dining rooms. It is important that guests know that the twin bedroom is between the main (king sized) bedroom and the en-suite for that bedroom, so guests in the king sized bedroom have to walk through the twin bedroom to get to the bathroom, and share the bathroom with those guests. We can offer limited privacy with screens on request. The twin beds can be converted to a double bed. The (double bedroom) has an ensuite in which has a bath but only the shower is working at the moment. There are several supermarkets a 10 - 15 minute car drive away for you to do your main food shop. The nearest pub, The White Horse at Burnham Green, is 15 minute walk away. The food was OK the last time I ate there and it has a very nice garden. About 2.5 miles away, the Plume of Feathers is a Greene King pub and is very affordable. The garden is also large and pleasant. If you want to walk along country road to Datchworth, you will find the Horns pub about 2 miles away. The food is good and Alice and Efa will give you a wonderful welcome. If you enjoy historic buildings, this one is for you. It was built in about 1543 when King Henry V111 was on the throne.
