Littlewood is a charming thatched cottage filled with traditional furnishings and antiques collected at home and abroad, and has an acre of beautiful park-like private gardens with four distinct seasons, and majestic mountain views. The cottage is a leisurely stroll to the Nature Reserve. Renowned for it's wide variety of fynbos and abundant birdlife, the Reserve offers everything from leisurely walks and invigorating hikes to numerous mountain bike trails catering to all fitness levels. The space You will have the whole private property to yourself. Originally a “Kaapse Langhuis”, this quintessential Greyton cottage was built in about 1854 on land laid out for farming as a series of long thin smallholdings irrigated by “leiwater” rills. It was extended and modified to be used as a retreat by Bishop Bill Burnett, the Archbishop of Cape Town, in about 1978 to include an ”afdak” and attic upstairs. The cottage has two double bedrooms and two bathrooms (one shower) and is ideal for two couples. The bedrooms are comfortable and filled with character; one on the ground floor with a double brass bed and access to the verandah, the other upstairs under the thatch, with a queen sized bed. Please note that both the bathroom and shower room are on the ground floor and neither is en-suite. The living and dining room have a traditional reed ceiling and a fireplace for chilly nights. The study, with an antique wooden writing desk is a perfect place to write and be inspired. The traditional kitchen is equipped with an induction hob, a counter-height free standing grill and oven, a microwave and a fridge with a freezer compartment. The generous verandah looks down the garden and is furnished with comfortable seating. It includes a large table and chairs for outdoor dining. The large garden, a life-time’s labour of love, is filled with mature trees that are particularly beautiful in autumn. Views of the Riviersonderend mountain range, often snow capped in winter, can be enjoyed from the inter-connected garden rooms. Numerous paths reveal hidden benches and pergolas. Guest access Parking for two vehicles is provided behind a locked gate. Other things to note There is no television. Must be able to climb stairs. Not suitable for infants or children under the age of sixteen. Sleeps four guests maximum. Strictly non-smoking.
