Description
If you dream of a good, old-fashioned 70s holiday with children hunting crabs in the tide, fishing from the jetty, feeding wild sheep and paddling in a kayak – Flåvær is the islet for you. A little luxury is here too; wood-fired hot tub, pink sunsets, long tables both outside and inside for shrimp and crab company. If you don't have your own boat, we'll take you across the fjord upon arrival! On the islet there will be a boat with an engine, ready for use. The space Flåvær – a small coastal pearl out in the sea gap where time stands still. The islet has been in the family since 1938; and at that time it was full of life on the small islet. Hundreds of fishing boats docked and departed from the quay, there was a post office on the sea house and families in each house. The children would wander through the grass to the tiny school at the end of the mountain, and come home to freshly baked fish cakes. Today, there are no permanent residents on the islet, except for a flock of charming wild sheep. Visiting Flåvær is like traveling back in time. There is still mail in the mailboxes, fishing nets on the sea house and family pictures on the walls - no cars, grocery stores, dishwasher or internet. (but good mobile coverage, no danger.) Rainy days can be enjoyed indoors; read a book in one of the four living rooms, or choose a DVD from the remarkable DVD collection. For rain and wind can be! The weather gods have big mood swings out here on the coast; you never know what's in the cards. But you can always cross your fingers – for blue skies and a calm sea. (It may be a good idea to bring yatzy for safety reasons) The surrounding area Flåvær is only 10 minutes from the mainland by boat. The nearest town is Fosnavåg – with grocery stores, pharmacy, cafes, restaurants, large concert hall and cinema. There are also great opportunities for unique nature experiences, such as the bird mountain Runde. At "opplevhavlandet".no you will find lots of information and tips for excursions! Guest access We pick you up on the mainland and take you across the fjord if you don't have a boat. Included in the rent are life jackets, five fishing rods, five crab pots, a kayak, a rowboat, a boat with a motor (for a petrol fee) and a private caretaker. My name is Anine, I am a 26-year-old woman and would like to welcome you to the island, as well as answer any questions. Otherwise, I mow the lawn, feed the sheep, weed the flower beds and float around unnoticeably like a summer breeze. I live in a small, red house fifty meters from the main house without a bathroom and kitchen – I use my own bathroom at the lake house, plus the smallest kitchen in the main house with its own entrance door. Flåvær is a lively island. Curious boats suddenly dock to look around, or summer neighbors come rustling to greet the sheep. But mostly it's a peaceful, little summer paradise where the shoulders sink in line with the blood pressure. And then it's beautiful. It's the first summer we rent out, and we are very excited about the feedback. Hope we can offer a nice break from another corona summer. All rental income goes to the maintenance of the old buildings, thank you so much for helping us to take care of the island! Kind regards, Other things to note Any questions Where can we park? There is a possibility to park on the mainland. Should we preferably have our own boat? If you don't have your own boat, you will be transported across the fjord upon arrival. On the island there is a rowboat; row a trip in the sunset - with or without fishing rods, or explore the small islets around Flåvær. The kayak is also nice when the sea is calm, then you can paddle away from your travel companions after arguing about who should do the dishes. There is also a boat with its own engine, which you can use for a fee for petrol. If the fjord is calm, you can go over to the mainland, and walk on foot – to grocery stores, or take the car to Fosnavåg. The caretaker (me) can also drive you across the fjord by appointment. If you have your own boat, the harbor at Flåvær is safe in all weather conditions. How do you do with food shopping? We recommend that you shop at the convenience stores when you arrive. In the main house there is a large freezer, two ovens, microwave and two refrigerators. In the pantry there is enough room to store any dry goods. And then there is the sea – short distance, fresh and full of fish (if you are lucky). Should we bring towels or bed linen? Towels and bedsheets are included. Otherwise, there is a washing machine and tumble dryer. There are two bathrooms with toilets and showers in the main house, as well as a toilet and shower in the cabin. Hot tub If you want to fire up the hot tub – and swim in the sunset – just let us know in advance! There is no wood on the island, but we buy it and transport it across the fjord to you. It costs NOK 300 per firewood. (ps, the hot tub has cup holders if you want to enjoy a cold lemonade in the warm salt water) Please let me know if you have any questions!
