Mother Earth Organic Farm Guesthouse in Vallanes

We offer accomodation in a small refurbished flat in our organic farm Vallanes near Egilsstadir in east Iceland. Beds for 3-4 people in two bedrooms. Private and calm atmosphere in beautiful environment. Breakfast snacks from the farm in the room and included in the price. Café/vegetarian restaurant is open from 10am-7pm daily in the summer. Private breakfast can be ordered seperately to be served in the café or nearby greenhouse. The space Two bedrooms, one has a double bed and the other has a bunkbed for 2 people. Bathroom with shower. The main room includes a kitchenette to prepare coffee, tea or simple meals. We also provide access to a BBQ outside upon request. We encourage our guests to enjoy our fresh and organic produce during the stay. Our boutique style café is open for vegetarian meals daily in the summer. Guest access The farm is situated ca 15 minute drive south of Egilsstaðir. Easy parking, right outside the apartment. Other things to note The Vallanes farm is very well situated in the heart of Fljótsdalshérað valley in approximity of Egilsstaðir village (only 15 minutes south by car, direction Hallormsstadur). Around Vallanes there is plenty of leisure possibilities. Hengifoss is one of the area‘s most important natural treasures, one of Iceland‘s highest waterfalls but easy to reach by hiking. A day tour around the lake Lagarfljót in the middle of Fljótsdalshérað could also include a visit to Snæfellstofa, the visitor centre for the Vatnajökull national park which gives a good insight into the geographics and natural cycles in the highlands. Next door is Skriðuklaustur a cultural center in the home of the writer Gunnar Gunnarsson where guests can visit the museum and have a personal, guided tour. The café in Skriðuklaustur, Klausturkaffi is known for homemade local food specialities. Head further, deep into the valley you find the Wilderness centre a place demonstrating how people in Iceland have lived with nature. Plenty of outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing and horseriding are easy to find. You can head for the highlands on a paved road leading up to the Kárahnjúkar dam and further, depending on your thirst for adventure. On the way dip into the natural pools at Laugarfell, and enjoy nature by walking along many of the trails in the area. The East Iceland Fjords are many and diverse, one hour away is Borgarfjörður Eystri which is probably the best location to see a large population of puffins. Seyðisfjörður 40 minutes drive from our farm offers culture, good food and nature. VÖK bats is a must, natural barths 15 minutes from the farm. Enjoy East Iceland ! Directions to Vallanes: Vallanes is on the east side of the glacial lake Lagarfljót, a little off road 931. Coming from the north: head for Egilsstadir, then continue south heading towards the Hallormsstadur forest. In about 13-15 minute drive you see a blue sign by the road saying "Jaðar - Vallanes - Iðavellir", turn and drive for another 3 km. When you see the church of Vallanes you are almost there. The farm is the first turn after the church, turn right when you see our wood sign. Coming from Höfn via shortcuts Breiðdalur/Öxi: at the end of road 95 , turn left towards Hallormsstaður/ Skriðuklaustur and drive 1 km, turn to the right when you see a blue sign saying "Jaðar - Vallanes - Iðavellir".
