Aloe Lodge is tucked between two rocky hills on Grootfontein Private Reserve, offering a quiet, private escape for 4-6 guests. Designed for rest and reconnection, the lodge features two en-suite bedrooms, an open living space, and uninterrupted mountain views. Spend slow afternoons cooling off in the private splash pool, or stargaze from the cargo net as the bush settles for the night. The space NOTE: Rate covers 6 guests. ALOE LODGE has 3 bedrooms and can sleep 6 adults in total. High clearance vehicles are recommended. A pick up from our main gate can be arranged at an additional cost of R200. OFF THE GRID Aloe Lodge runs on solar power and embraces a simpler way of staying. There is no air conditioning or microwave, and we kindly ask guests not to use high-power appliances such as hairdryers, electric blankets, or hair straighteners. If modern, high-energy amenities are essential for your stay, this may not be the right fit. If you’re seeking quiet, nature, and a slower pace, Aloe Lodge offers exactly that. HIKING (Trail map sent on booking confirmation) The 7.5 km KUDU ROUTE hugs the foot of the mountain and gives you a good workout and appreciation for our slice of the famous Bushveld. For the more energetic you can hike our mountainous 6-11 km BLACK EAGLE ROUTE and enjoy the panoramic views towards Botswana and the Waterberg. Expect sightings of kudu, mountain rheebuck, zebra, klipspringer and resident black eagles. Remember your water bottle, sunblock and snacks! SUNDOWNER DRIVES Join us on a sundowner game drive through Grootfontein Private Reserve. The route passes through landmarks on the farm and a sundowner stop on Mount Mooi overlooking the great flats towards Botswana and the Waterberg biosphere. Light refreshments provided. Own coolerbox allowed. Bring binoculars, a jersey, water and camera. R350 per person (minimum 4 guests). R1200 set fee for less than 3 guests. Contact us to arrange this during your stay! Guest access High clearance vehicles are recommended. A pickup can be arranged from the main gate at an additional cost of R300. Please let us know in advance of your check in so that we can pre arrange this for you. A fee of R500 will be charged for guests who only let us know as they arrive at the gate. A code to our main gate will be shared closer to your stay. Once you enter the farm via the main road, follow the signs 'Grootfontein' along the gravel farm road. The main road comes to a bend (Grootfontein sign), carry on driving for a few metres. Matopos Cabin is the unit on the left, carry on straight past Matopos and turn left into next road. FULLY SELF CATERED We are fully self catered. The closest restaurants and shops are in Thabazimbi, about 40 minutes from Grootfontein farm. Please make sure to pack all the food and snacks you require for your stay. There is no restaurant on the farm. THINGS TO DO Make sure to pack a good book, some lekker food and enjoy the untouched bushveld from the splash pool or cargo net.
