Description

A two person secluded Shepherds Hut nestled amongst the trees situated in a wildflower meadow on a farm for Wildlife. Staying toasty in the winter with wool insulation and log burner and cool in the summer under the canopy this hut is the perfect retreat to the country and to reconnect with nature and yourself. The space When staying in the hut you can expect views overlooking a few of our wildflower meadows and the ancient woodlands. You have all you could need with a shower room with a flushing loo and sink, kitchen with hob a under counter fridge and electricity. Accessing the comfortable double bed is simple, all you need to do is collapse the breakfast table and pull down the leather strap! This hut is a true show of craftsmanship with attention to the smallest of details. It is well insulated, so you stay very warm in the winter with the log burner and the wool insulation and in the summer you can stay cool with the assistance of the trees giving you shelter under the green canopy. Coffee and tea are provided in the hut. We have an BBQ area with fuel and a fire pit with logs for you to toast marshmallows over. In summer you can have use of heated swimming pool set in an idyllic English garden surrounded by beautiful roses. This is seasonal and by arrangement, with Jan. Would you like your whole family to come and stay with us, please email Jan to ask about pitching your own tent with the Shepherds Hut. Our Farm consists of 250 acres with 160 acres of semi-natural ancient woodland and 90 acres of traditional wildflower meadows to roam at will. Barn Owls are seen regularly flying at dusk and nightingales are prolific in our carefully managed woodland and can be heard singing away for most of the night and early hours of the morning, along with much, much more wildlife. We have a beautiful herd of Longhorn cattle that can be seen in our meadows, and sometimes can be seen from the hut grazing the fields surrounding the shepherd's hut. Shadoxhurst is a small village with a delightful little Church and a great pub, The Kings Head, that serves delicious food including breakfast and is a 20-minute walk through meadows. We also have the famous Woolpack Inn Warehorne which is an hour and 15 minute delightful walk through both meadows and woodland. But many other great pubs on our doorstep. Our Farm: Our farm is run for wildlife and for the last 25 years Jan and Mike have worked hard on cultivating a nature rich, diverse landscape. Moat Farm is bursting with rare and endangered species of plants, butterflies, birds and bees and mammals. Everything we do on our farm is for the protection and preservation of the future for these species and our planet. We have Turtle doves, 23 Nightingale territories, several pairs of breeding barn owl that can often be seen hunting at dusk, tawny owl, kestrels, warblers and finches. We have recently found not only wild honey bees and bumble bees but also rare Long-horned bees foraging in our field-edge brambles. Grass snakes and slow worms are regularly seen, along with great crested newt and toads in the early spring. We have noted 26 species of butterfly around the farm and its woodlands to date. Marbled White are numerous alongside Ringlet, Meadow Browns, Small Coppers, Blues and Skippers. Grizzled Skippers were seen regularly until the last two summers giving rise to concern. Purple Hairstreak can be found in the tops of the oak trees. Other woodland butterflies include Silver Washed Fritillary and White Admiral. Dormice and Harvest Mice are regularly encountered. We hope that when you stay with us, you will leave feeling refreshed and more connected to nature. We have two bell tents for staying in on the farm along with a beautiful Shepherd Hut.
