The space The cottage has been tastefully restored in the context of its grade 2 listing. There is very adequate car parking and a pretty garden small wood and 6 acre field. Local amenities in Aberfeldy offer a great variety of good restaurants, cafes, a Leisure Centre which has a large swimming pool. There is an Art Deco cinema and cafe - in fact there is lots to see and do locally. To see: Dewar's distillery, Castle Menzies, Breadalbane Castle, Cluny gardens. To do: archery, river rafting at Grantully, Kenmore with its boats, fishing on the Lyon and Tay, Golf and riding. In the opposite direction is the famous Glen Lyon and the village of Fortingall where Pontius Pilate was reputedly born. In the churchyard stands the oldest piece of vegetation in Europe, a 3000 year old Yew Tree. This special part of Perthshire has lots to offer the visitor. Smithy cottage as Star Link internet super quick, super efficient, smart TV all to enjoy. Guest access Smithy cottage is south facing, and there is nothing more pleasant than to enjoy a drink or dine outside (garden furniture provided) in the pretty garden facing the lovely views. The cottage has a wonderful cosy feel on account of the Aga cooker in the kitchen being on at all times throughout the year. There are tips on how to use the Aga most effectively in the manual instructions to help guests staying at the cottage. There is also a 2 ring hob for those that do not want to use the Aga, washing machine, dishwasher, and CD player with discs in the kitchen and a table that seats 5 and plenty of work surfaces. The sitting room has a TV, recorder and Wifi and is traditionally furnished. For added warmth in the winter there is a wood burner and a night storage heater. The downstairs master bedroom has a queen size four poster bed and a door leading out into the garden. The adjacent bathroom and separate shower has underfloor heating and the bath is a jacuzzi for 2 persons! Upstairs there are two further bedrooms, one double with a separate cloakroom style lavatory and basin. The second bedroom contains two single beds. In the grounds of Smithy Cottage previously known locally as " the Smiddy", there is an ancient forge which is one of only two remaining in its original condition in the UK. There is an ancient lime kiln is the garden which is to be found behind the garden shed on the boundary line, and a water well near the house. I do not suggest you taste the water as it has not been tested for several years. There is a short-cut walkway to the road from the bottom of the garden so plenty of exploring to do! For those who like walking at the top of the village there is a waterfall and further up and beyond is Loch Farleyer. A path leads to Dull where the children attended school from the village. For guests pleasure there is a booklet published 20 years ago about the people who lived in Camserney. The cover photo is taken from "the Smiddy". A painting of the inside of the forge by H.J. Dobson is now in the USA, but a photocopy not to size is to be found on the stairs leading to the upstairs bedrooms. Smithy Cottage was owned by Bill and Ann Dewar who spent 20 yrs restoring Castle Menzies from an ancient monument to a Grade 1 listed Castle which is open to the public. Their portraits are on the wall as you enter the Dewar Room at the Castle. Other things to note Please do read the manual on Smithy Cottage as it explains how to use the Jacuzzi bath and the Aga Cooker (keep on 1 at all times unless you are preparing a banquet then raise to 5) and it also contains other useful information including controlling the night storage heater in sitting room, and electric fires in the bedrooms. The council collect the refuse on Tuesdays even if the notice is a year or so out of date! The blue lidded bin is for recycle items and the other bin in for general waste. In the car parking next to the Co-op up the steps are the towns recycle bins for bottles. One is not allowed to put bottles in the Council's collection bins. The wood burning fire now has a marble surround and is tested and approved for guests use.
