Description

Looking to save a little on your lodging in Watertown? Perhaps you're down from Ontario for a shopping trip, need a place to prep for an interview at SMC, or visiting a friend on Fort Drum? I have a guest room with your name on it! The space I've lived in Jefferson County a long time and am happy to give restaurant recommendations, directions, etc. I keep a fairly clean* house that is well stocked with a little bit of everything and anything by way of amenities. It's like you'll be crashing with a long lost college friend you haven't seen in a decade. However, please ask before rooting around in my medicine cabinet, etc. I'm a bit OCD, so trust me, I will notice. (update) I'm your host, not your long lost friend, so don't use my razor. That's gross. Thanks! I apologize in advance, I haaaate dusting. It's the worst. But I promise all the important stuff is clean. PS - as of Jan '17, I have a cat. Yes, it was a terrible idea. The guest room is off limits to him (so obviously that's the only place he wants to be) and he stays in the basement a lot, but you have been warned. Guest access Guests will NOT have full kitchen access. There is usually very little room in the fridge (if you regularly travel with a gallon of milk it might need to get stored in the snow, also - that's a lot of milk) and I have just had too many mishaps to allow anyone free reign to cook. Light food prep, like heating things in the microwave, and regular dishes/glasses/silverware use are ok. The bathroom is shared but kept very clean. The tv in the guest room has a Fire Stick with Freevee loaded and you can add any of your own streamers as you wish. It's a small house, for sure, but I like to be prepared for any eventuality short of a zombie apocalypse. Just ask if you need something, except my razor. During your stay I'll probably be around, outside of my 9-5 job hours. I'm also a new host so I'll be expecting to meet you upon check in, etc. (6 months later) I am more comfortable letting folks check in without me hovering, finding a glass of water on their own, etc., which works out well since I'm crazy busy all summer but still enjoy sharing my home with random travelers. (12 months later) If I'm not home, I'll leave the door unlocked for you and direct you to my House Manual for FAQ. I may ask you to feed the cat, but you'll have the house to yourself. This is especially true of summer weekends. (3 years later) I have a lockbox for the key, automatic cat water and food dispensers, tons of sheets and towels and a pretty good track record of awesome guests that have been through my doors. And everyone jokes with me about the razor, so I'm not going to edit that out. (6 years later) I have a boyfriend! He sleeps over about half the week and the other half the week I’m at his place. He’s a good cook and a cool cat (much cooler than my actual cat). I can confirm if he’ll be around in advance if you would like to know. Most week nights it's a 50/50 chance of me being on the couch all night catching up on my dvr vs. me getting home from volleyball/trivia/book club/other at 11pm and heading to bed shortly after. But, I'm always available by phone or text if I’m not physically home. Now, as for you, please be honest with me about who will be staying. If you're "visiting a friend" on Fort Drum but that "friend" is going to also stay in my home for 5 nights, make your reservation for two. It won't cost you any more and I won't tell your father you're no longer a virgin. Nothing is worse than hearing a loud man's sneeze in the middle of the night when you think a 22 year old girl from Iowa is alone in the guest room. No guests, extras, new friends or hitchhikers are allowed in my home unless it's on the reservation or you otherwise ask in advance. Other things to note I finally installed central air, so the whole house and guest room are kept fairly freezing on sweltering summer days. However, I do like to rock a windows open approach whenever possible. If you have a preference, just let me know! There is also a fan in the closet for your use at any time. In the winter, it's the warmest room in the house and I've had some people close the heat vent. Speaking of summer, I'm gone a lot of weekends so occasionally I will have guests check out/in in my absence. I leave detailed instructions and clean linens if this is the case. The only thing you may have to do is make up your bed upon arrival and/or strip your sheets before you check out. I will alert you in advance if this is the case. Enjoy having the house to yourself, but there are still no parties/extra people/smoking/dogs/babies/beer shotgunning allowed. If I am away for long periods of time, I have a friend that will stop in for cat duty and I sometimes rent my master bedroom to my long time regulars, who have turned into super co-hosts. I will warn you if that is the case, but if that is a concern just let me know in advance. It's only in the summer or for extended vacations. I'm also rather terrible at offering the second "b" as in breakfast. I don't eat it much at home and my coffee set up is incredibly inconvenient (I absolutely refuse to Keurig). I usually have fruit and breakfast bars available and some great diner recommendations ready to share. There are multiple Dunkin and Tim Horton locations in town, which is probably your safest bet. I do NOT offer a discount for extended stays, since I am best set up for quick stops and single overnights. I try to keep my price competitive for the visiting businessman, but I have zero interest in a roommate. I do, however, love to lower my price for my "regulars" that have to be in town often for work, or repeat occasional customers - just ask! As for Covid '19, I disinfect high touch areas often during a stay and always between stays for everyone's safety. I have travel size hand sanitizer and extra masks available for guests. I get the flu and Covid shot each year and if you are willing to share your vaccination status with me I would be happy to air high-5 you about it. Thank you for understanding and stay safe out there!
