Description

Our property is located in the village of Agios Ioannis, in the south of Crete, just a few meters from the sea. It is ideal for families, those who want to explore the mountains and beaches, and anyone looking to disconnect, relax, and enjoy a peaceful place with hospitable people. The space The property is approximately 120 square meters. It features a large balcony and a veranda where you can relax and enjoy the lovely view and beautiful sunset. Each room is equipped with air conditioning. There are two bathrooms, a kitchen, one television, and a fireplace in the living room. On the first floor, there is a queen-size bed for two people, two single beds in a separate room on the ground floor, and another bed in the living room. We can provide an additional bed (ranch) for a 6th person. Behind the main house, there is a smaller one where we stay for part of the year. Guest access Journey to the Village: Road Conditions and Recommendations You can reach the area only by car (it is recommended to rent an SUV or 4x4), as there is no public transportation. The village of Agios Ioannis is approximately 69 kilometers from Heraklion. Coming from there, you will first arrive at the village of Loukia, located at the foot of the Asterousia mountain range, about 53 kilometers from Heraklion. From Loukia, you will start ascending the mountain until you reach the village of Kapetaniana (approximately 8 kilometers, with many twists and turns). The road up to this point is paved with asphalt. After the village of Kapetaniana, you will begin descending the mountain to reach the sea. From there, the asphalt ends, and the road for the last 8 kilometers is made of dirt, small rocks, and concrete in certain turns for added safety. The last 4–5 kilometers are the most challenging, and you need to drive carefully. However, this is where the views become spectacular, and they will surely make you forget about the rough road. The scenery is breathtaking, and the natural surroundings are truly unique. Small vehicles can also reach the area without any problems, especially during the summer, provided you drive even more cautiously. Note that the condition of the last stretch of dirt road changes throughout the year, depending on weather conditions (rain, wind, etc.). During the winter, the road is most likely to be in worse condition than in the summer, and an SUV or 4x4 may be a necessity. You may check in earlier if there are no guests leaving the same day, and check out later if there are no guests checking in on the same day. Other things to note Exploring the Area: Activities, Amenities, and Local Tips The area is ideal for hiking and exploring nearby beaches with crystal-clear waters and beautiful mountain trails. There are also many monasteries within and outside the village to explore and learn about. Some of these include Agios Ioannis (10 minutes on foot), Agios Antonios (35–45 minutes on foot), and, of course, the large monastery of Koudoumas (an hour and a half on foot). We highly recommend visiting all of them during your stay. The village has a café-tavern (Gialos Café) located above the beach, where you can try some traditional dishes and enjoy your coffee and drinks with a stunning view just a few meters from the sea. There, you can ask anything about the area, including more details, as the people who work there are very welcoming and helpful. Note that the café-tavern (Gialos Café) is open approximately from April to November and closed during the winter (except for some weekends, which are not fixed). There is also a tavern in the village of Kapetaniana. You can buy some basic supplies from the village's mini-market located in the center. We strongly recommend stocking up on supplies from Heraklion or another village along the way. Note that the mini-market is open approximately from April to November and on some days during the winter. Note that if you stay at the property, especially for an extended period, you can request a list of supplies, and we will deliver them to you twice a week. Registration Details 00000044985
