Located in a historic building on the main drag and adorned with 135-year old hardwood floors, original woodwork, local art, huge rain shower, and forest views - this tastefully styled flat feels like being transported to a 19th century boarding house. With espresso, galleries, live music, shops, food, and drinks steps away, you have the forests and a tiny cityscape just steps out your door. This apartment is offered at the Dandy Flats - a lovingly restored Inn. This flat was designed and built by hosts Justin and Trevor and is part of the Dandy Flats project. We have been working for years to bring this dilapidated building back into working order without erasing all the lovely design details inherent to late 19th-century boomtown commercial buildings. However, this wasn't just a restoration project. We were motivated to create an immersive and inspiring stay that was an extension of us, the community, and the region. Today, we have a delightfully moody and personality-rich stay to serve as your home base while you explore the area. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Welcome to the Dandy. Guests are provided everything needed to stay for a night or to stay for a while. This includes: KITCHEN: A fully functioning kitchen with all the utensils and wares required to make simple to complex meals, including an under-counter mini-fridge, gas range with exhaust, air fryer/oven, and microwave. Nice glassware is provided for your cocktails and wine. NOTE: We only supply the basics: salt, pepper, and organic olive oil. COFFEE/TEA/WATER: A frothy Nespresso machine with complimentary pods for coffee before or after Tip Top Coffee is open (next door). Clean, filtered water is at the kitchen tap via a 4-stage Aquasuana filter and a light assortment of teas is provided. We also supply a french press and coffee grinder for those that travel with their beans. BATHROOM: On-demand hot water for long rain showers, complimentary dandy bar soap, Uni shampoo, conditioner, body wash & hand soap, rose incense, house matches, and 100% cotton bath towels/linens. All bathrooms have exhaust fans and an overhead heater. BEDROOM: A medium/firm queen bed with 400-count organic sateen cotton sheets, four hypoallergenic pillows (two that are more firm, and two that are much fluffier), and an alternative down all-season Saatva duvet with a linen duvet cover. Custom solid wood shutters and french return curtains are provided for privacy and light blocking. LIVING/DINING: A designated living area with a sofa-style day bed and pillows, a lounge chair/rocker, vintage rugs, side tables, and all the dimmable mood-setting lights your heart desires. MEDIA/DATA: A sharp-sounding Klipshe Bluetooth speaker system is provided. You will have stable high-speed wifi with data rates averaging 120+Mbps. A smart TV with airplay and casting features, with HBO, Netflix, Prime, Hulu, and Disney channels. We do not provide basic cable. PATIO/ENTRY: There is a shared entry stairwell from the town sidewalk up to the Dandy patio. During warmer months, we encourage you to hang out here and enjoy the 2000+ pixelated light show. Each flat has a private entry with a deadbolt lock and custom access code that will be sent before arrival and only work ARTWORK: Beautiful and inspiring artwork of mostly local/regional working artists and/or dead geniuses. Guests will have sole and private access to the entire apartment. The staircase and covered patio to Front Street is shared with the neighboring Quaintrelle guest(s). This is a self-checkin rental. You will be provided an access code the day before your arrival by email. This code will expire at checkout. While there is no person to greet you, know that we are always available by phone, the Airbnb messaging platform, email or text. A trusted friend and neighbor will have the space ready for your arrival and can be present for any emergencies. Basically, the neighborhood is the entire tiny mountain town of Thomas and you are smack dab in the middle of it. It’s as dense as a city block in Brooklyn but surrounded by National Forests, Parks and Wilderness Areas. Steps away is Tip Top Coffee Bar & Bakery (voted #1 in the state), the Purple Fiddle (a dedicated music venue that brings incredible shows to the town every weekend and weekdays in summer), impressive art and print galleries like Invisible, Talking Leaves, Gradient Space, Bloom, Santangelo and Creature. And now Thomas has food and drinks! Picnic Tacos, Farm up Table & Cocktail Bar, Riverfront Wood-fired Pizza, Elenders, and the Purple Fiddle. But, don’t forget to walk the trails and appreciate the endless forests and parks in Canaan Valley, Blackwater Falls and Dolly Sods - all a short 5 to 30 minute drive away. A car is needed to get to Thomas but once you’re in town, one can park and let the legs take over. Walking is the best way to get around, and the trailhead to miles of National Forest trails are also right outside the door. The town of Davis, which is known for its breweries and restaurants is a few miles away by car. Blackwater Falls, which receives over a million visitors a year, is also just a few miles away. The downhill ski slopes of Timberline and Canaan, as well as the cross-country ski trails of White Grass, are only 20 minutes away by car. And the crown jewel, Canaan Valley and Dolly Sods are 20 to 40 minutes away depending on your preferred trail and entry point. -Street parking is free and often available on weekdays. We do ask weekend guests to park behind the building, in the alley, to clear spaces for small business traffic. -There is a single, narrow staircase to access the flats. If you have mobility issues with stairs, this is not an ideal place to stay. - In winter, the sidewalks and stairs can get snowy during big snow events. We do our best to clear it, but sometimes you can't keep up, especially when temperatures dip below 20. If you are able and willing, please use the snow shovel to make a clear path. This will help us and our fellow guests. We are merely at two-unit property and do not have the full-service staff you’d find at a larger hotel/motel. - We have one dog-friendly unit - The Nonchalant. Travelers with dogs must be approved, and a $30 non-refundable cleaning fee will be charged, per stay. - Thomas is in the mountains with the avg. summer nighttime temps falling into the 50s and 60s, which is why nearly all homes in the area don't have AC. The AC is outside - just open your windows. - This apartment is on the main drag in Thomas. The street can be busy during concert nights and/or during high traffic flow. You may hear loud trucks and/or passersby as they exit and walk to their cars after a live music show IF you have the windows open. A white noise machine is provided for light sleepers.
