Description

Welcome to The Meadow, nestled in a quiet corner of Broughton Hampshire, an idyllic 2 acre setting tucked away and peaceful, yet only 5 mins to the convenience of this typical English village. Whether you prefer to take the rowing boat out on the lake, play tennis on the grass court, or sit quietly by the Wallop Brook watching the trout and ducklings cruise by, your time at The Meadow is your own to relax and enjoy the stunning setting as you wish... The space Your stunning accommodation is Mary's Place, a gorgeous and completely unique glamping experience, offering a luxurious stay amongst perfect surroundings. Being only one of three glamping units in The Meadow’s private setting of two acres, Mary's Place is perfectly secluded and has plenty of space with a variety of bespoke areas to help you spread out and relax. Firstly, you have the bedroom, a sumptuous retreat of colour and indulgence, with a front wall of folding glass doors perfect for looking over the lake, soft deep pile carpet, super comfy double bed and twinkling fairy lights to perfectly complete the romantic setting this boutique bohemian space offers. Draw back the curtain in the morning and step outside to find the most wonderful private setting, with the babbling Wallop Brook to one side and the sparkling expanse of a lake directly in front of you, complete with the resident moorhens, Aylesbury ducks and chicks and ducklings paddling around the lake. Then overlooking the lake, there is your beautifully original summer house where the luxurious theme continues! Decked in warm, vibrant colours inside and out and situated on extensive decking stretching over the lake, this area is exclusively yours to use as you wish - relax on the bench while reading a book by the calm serenity of the lake, enjoy a meal on the deck, or sip a cup of tea sheltering from the elements inside the summer house. Finally, you have your outdoor comfy sofa, shrouded with a fur throw and cushions, the perfect place to chill with a glass in hand while watching the fire pit crackle, gently cooking your evening meal on the traditional overhead tripod.... and relax!! Mary’s Place may be mainly off grid, but never fear, there are plenty of creature comforts inside and out too - from your 14 tog duvet and fur throws, hot water bottles, mains hot water private shower to your large private outdoor area which includes a fire pit and cooking tripod, mini kitchen, gas bbq, bistro table and chairs and even your own leather couch & coffee table, all subtly bathed by solar lights. You may decide to cook amazingly tasty local buffalo burgers over the fire pit under the stars or you can opt to take a short stroll to one of the local pubs for a meal or a tipple. Perhaps then finish your evening cosying up in front of the firepit with a hot chocolate, or a large glass of wine, the choice is yours – Mary’s Place is the ideal romantic setting to breathe out and relax…. Wild Billy’s - an original, fully restored luxury Showman’s Caravan! https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/33877289 The Magic Rat - a fully restored canal boat moored by its own private island! https://www.airbnb.com/h/themagicrat Or a group booking for up to 10 guests exclusive use Guest access We thought some FAQs might help! • How private is each unit? We are fortunate that we have just 3 glamping units over 2 acres at The Meadow, therefore guests will be naturally far apart in their own private areas - so although you will get glimpses of other guests through the trees, with a maximum of 6 glamping guests on site, the units are all beautifully private! Each unit has their own separate shower, private toilet, indoor and outdoor spaces and river side seating. • The Meadow is off grid – what does that actually mean? In a nutshell, getting away from it all without the distractions of modern life! So instead of electric lights, you have solar and battery alternatives; instead of music from a Wifi speaker, you have the sounds of the woodpeckers, kingfishers, ducks and owls! But don’t worry, we have supplied everything you need to have a very comfortable and relaxing stay. • Is there no electric at all on site? Not quite! There is no electric at the units, however, a picturesque 90 second walk away along Gypsy Angel Row brings you to The Old Store which has electric sockets (if you really need to check your phone/device!), a hairdryer and a fridge freezer for your perishables! The summer house at Mary’s Place does also have 2 sockets (a hangover from a previous life!). We also supply ice packs so you have the option of keeping food cold in the glamping unit. • What are the cooking options? - Each unit has a large fire pit and traditional Romany tripod to cook/bbq your own meals from scratch. - There is also a gas bbq with boiling ring if you fancy an easier option. Pick veg straight from our garden or re heat any prepared food you would like to bring. All pots & pans, cooking utensils and a kettle are supplied. - There is a mini kitchen prep area set up amongst the trees and an outside table and chairs for each unit. - In case of inclement weather, you can use the beautiful summer house. - Dishwashing is available in the butler’s sink next to the Old Store and showers where you’ll find hot running water. - There is a good pub in the village within a 5 minute walk and many other food / take away options slightly further afield. Details of local restaurants will be in your unit, if you would like this info in advance, we can email it to you. - We also have a local option which will deliver ready to eat food directly to your unit: Wild ones of Winchester can deliver a menu of your choice. Please let us know if you would like further details on any of the above options. Our advice? Look at the weather and plan ahead 😁 • What about showers? A picturesque 90 second walk away along Gypsy Angel Row (our little wooded walkway) you will find the new showers. Each shower is themed and dedicated solely for use by one unit, so there is no sharing, you and your travel companion will have your own beautiful private hot shower. • How do the compost toilets work? Do they smell?? They don’t smell at all! All you have to do is throw a handful of sawdust into the bucket after each use and this provides the balance of carbon and nitrogen required for the decomposition process – and that’s it (no need to empty any containers)! Just think of it as a toilet without a flush which is chemical free, is easy to maintain and gives an environmentally friendly solution – all in an attractive hut that blends well with all surroundings. Definitely an important part of your glamping experience, nothing to be daunted by! • How do we stay warm? The glampsite is unheated, so please check the weather and pack appropriate clothing. Outdoors, you have a large fire pit to gather round to keep you warm and we have found that even on a cool evening with the high tog super cosy duvets and fur throw, you will be nice and toasty! A small heater is available for the summer house for the early / late months of the season, just ask if you would like this. • Can you accommodate pets? There is a lot of wildlife around the glampsite, therefore we are afraid pets are not permitted. • Is it strictly no kids on site? The Meadow is advertised as a relaxing retreat, therefore it is generally adults only, to ensure all guests get peace and tranquillity. However, in certain circumstances, for instance if a family/group book all units for exclusive then children are very welcome, please enquire to see if we can accommodate. Please bear in mind that it is not a suitable venue for very young kids as there is a small river running through the glampsite, plus a lake and lots of natural trip hazards (tree roots etc). • What is provided on site? - Mary Place is fully equipped with vintage crockery and all the cutlery, pans and cooking implements you should need for your stay. - A significant amount of wood for the fire pit and wood burner, lighters and kindling (additional wood can be purchased for £5 a crate) - Gas bbq - Towels and bedding - Hot water bottles - Drinking water, water for cooking - Solar lights, 2 LED lamps - Ice packs - Fridge freezer (in The Store) - Washing up liquid, bowl, sponges etc - Starter tea and coffee - Antibac gel/wipes • You won't have to bring much, but perhaps consider packing: - Head torches / extra torches (some are provided), charger / batteries - Sun tan lotion, caps, sunglasses - Wellies - Slippers (for inside the caravan) - Easy slip on shoes, dressing gown / loungewear (for early morning toilet / shower trips) - Blankets / throws (for sitting round the firepit) - Food & drinks (inc coffee / tea / sugar) - Kitchen roll - Any medication / medicines required - Toiletries - Your own antibacterial products (there will also be some provided on site) Other things to note Check out our other glamping units!
