Description

Perched on the edge of the picturesque dam, Coot- and Bullrush Cottage sit alongside each other with spectacular views of the Langeberg Mountains. About an hour and a half from Cape Town, near the Nuy valley, Amandalia farm is home to Saggy Stone Brewery and now 6 unique A-Frame cottages situated within a private nature reserve. Another 2 stone cottages complete the bouquet of accommodation. The space During the course of 2018, a 22km game fence was completed so that the cottages are now part of the game reserve (hence the reason for no pets allowed). Abundant bird life, some blue wildebeest, black and copper springbok are amongst the wildlife that will be your fellow residents during your stay. An open plan kitchen and living area extends onto a private wooden deck where you can sit with a cup of coffee and relax with beautiful mountain views which stretch for miles while listening to the sounds of busy birds flitting from bush to bush. Each cottage sleeps a maximum of 6 adults comfortably, with all the modern conveniences such as solar power, private braai and hot water and an extra bedroom with 2 single beds. Advertised Rate is for 2 guests, thereafter additional guests are charged at R300 per person per night to a max of 6 guests in total) A wood fired hot tub on the deck of the cottage is a perfect place to watch the stars and listen to the sounds of nature. It is one of two exclusive units at the dam - each, unique and offering privacy and memorable experiences. The 2 cottages are close enough for security but not too close to disturb your privacy. The third cottage is neatly tucked away behind a hill – this one is called Solitude and that is what it promises. Lookout Cottage and Sundowner Cottage are the other 2 A-frames, and higher up in the Kloof are 2 stone cottages called Oaktree and Kloof. Lastly, there is a 4x4 access only cottage called Mountain Top sitting on the upper part of the fence line. Small luxuries of tea/coffee/sugar/olive oil and balsamic vinegar are provided. The cottages have 12V power with 2 normal plug points for charging devices/laptops. There is a USB charging point in the sitting room for cell phones and tablets. 1 bag of wood per night is supplied to get the hot tub going, as well as firelighters, braai grid and tongs. It is recommended to bring wood for the braai. We allow for late check out on Sunday's should there be no bookings for the Sunday night. Check out times will be confirmed closer to the time. Unfortunately no day visitors. Guest access Wine and Olive tastings in the nearby Robertson and Worcester Wine Routes River Boat Cruises at Kolgans and Viljoensdrift McGregor: Lord's Winery for platters and amazing wine tasting (stunning location) The town of McGregor is worth a walk - it is an old village with quaint shops and eateries Vrolikheid Nature Reserve has a lovely hike as well and this is on the way to McGregor. Tanagra Wine Farm – great grappa tasting (just confirm opening times) Robertson direction: Springfield Winery for wine tasting, Owl's Rest which is a lovely Lavender and Olive farm which has a small shop and you can enjoy a cappucino in a gorgeous setting. Kranskop Winery- they do a wonderful cheese platter and the venue is divine for their wine tasting. These are all within short distances from each other. If you like hiking or walking, then Van Loveren also has a hiking trail which is challenging but rewarding. For another day in the Bonnievale area/direction: Silverthorn Winery for MCC tasting Wederom in Bonnievale does an incredible Chardonnary tour and tasting and now has a great restaurant for lunch - Kapokbos Other things to note We charge a base rate for 2 people and then R300 per person per night after that to a max of 6 guests in the cottage. There are 3 bedrooms - two downstairs and a loft bedroom with step ladder access. The roads are totally accessible with normal vehicles but not with low profile vehicles- they are dusty and uneven (typical farm roads) and can be quite muddy if it rains. There is no 240v power - only 12v USB charging points in the bottom 2 rooms The nearest towns/shops are between 25 and 30km away so best to come prepared for your stay - you may not want to leave once you have arrived!
