The space We opened a Bed & Breakfast in our attractive merchant’s house, characteristic of the Zaan region – and a listed building, dating from 1694 – in the spring of 2008. What began with a request from friends for accommodation for ‘their’ interim manager for one or two nights a week soon developed into our Bed & Breakfast. Our U-shaped house – with nine rooms, three bathrooms, and a large enclosed garden – is ideally suited both to receiving guests and to our work as a writer and musician. Moreover, we have discovered the enjoyment of welcoming guests. A little more than one year after we began our Bed & Breakfast we – to our great surprise – won the Dutch Bed & Breakfast Award, 2009, followed by the Eropuit in Eigen Land Award 2010-2011, apartment category. Since March 2008 a steady stream of guests, ranging from interim managers and businessmen and women to tourists from all corners of the world, have felt ‘at home’ in our Bed & Breakfast. The attractive, luxurious guest suite (about 50 m2) on the ground floor in a wing of our U-shaped house opens into a lovely enclosed garden. You have your own entrance via the garden, a hall with a cloakroom and a cupboard with washing machine/dryer, ironing board and iron. The hall brings you to the fully-equipped kitchen with dining table, electric hob with four cooking zones, refrigerator with freezer, combined microwave and convection oven, Wedgewood crockery, pans and kitchen utensils, coffeemaker, electric kettle, toaster and coffee and tea. The kitchen is next to the L-shaped living room/bedroom, with two abutting luxurious Pullman boxspring beds that can be separated if you so require. The guest suite also has a sitting area with a coffee table and two comfortable armchairs, mantel with with environment hearth, desk, spacious wardrobe, central heating and an electric fireplace, radio, movable 40 inch flat screen TV with Chromecast, DVD and CD player, alarm radio, Philips wake-up light, free WiFi, DVDs, CDs, books, tourist information. The romantic bathroom with a domed celestial ceiling is equipped with a toilet, washbasin, luxury twin spa whirlpool bath, rain shower, underfloor heating and design towel radiator. The bathroom is adjoined by a private Finnish sauna with light therapy. Your guest suite also offers you luxury bedlinen and towels, bathrobes, hairdryer, sauna accessories and toiletries, coffee and tea, as well as a bottle of wine, chocolates, fresh fruit and flowers on your arrival. The central location of our B&B offers you an ideal base for both an exploration of the surroundings and visits to Amsterdam, the coast and the many tourist attractions in the Province of Noord-Holland. You are just a few minutes’ walk from: Zaandijk Zaanse Schans railway station, with direct links including Amsterdam Centraal railway station (4 x per hour, 17 min. journey); the famous De Zaanse Schans open-air museum with windmills, a cheese dairy and a clog workshop; the Mill museum; shops and a supermarket, five restaurants, bars with outdoor seating, waterbuses, swimming pool and attractive rambling, cycling and canoeing routes.
