Other things to note Olney, our charming and historic market town is in the very north of Buckinghamshire; roughly 12 miles from Northampton & from Milton Keynes. Olney is famous for its connection to the poet William Cowper and John Newton, the ex-slave trader, who together composed the Olney Hymns including “Amazing Grace”. The Cowper and Newton Museum, on the southern side of the Market Place, is located in the house where Cowper lived from 1768 until 1786. It was here that he wrote much of his poetry. The Museum also contains a fine collection of Buckinghamshire lace, which was at one time the main occupation of the townsfolk. Additionally Olney has a fantastic bustling community with local pubs, restaurants and lovely little boutiques. Once Britain’s Best Kept Secret, today Bletchley Park is a heritage site and vibrant tourist attraction. Open daily, visitors can explore some of the iconic WW2 Codebreaking Huts and Blocks and marvel at the astonishing achievements of the Codebreakers whose work is said to have helped shorten the war by two years. Public interest in Bletchley Park has grown enormously over the past few years and the number of visitors to Bletchley Park in 2014 was 195,000. (URL HIDDEN)
