Description
Our retouched rugged farm house is ideal for a rural Overberg farm-style escape. At the foot of the Akkedisberg in a dead-end valley, you’ll find the end of the rush. The space Seclusion and quiet amoung unspoilt nature is what makes this place a rare find; at the end of a gravel trail into the Boschriver valley. This 300 year old Shepard’s hut, year after year enlarged to a 5 bedroom homestead, is set snugly where the wheat fields meet the foot of the Akkedisberg Mountain range - a fynbos paradise famed for its biodiversity and part of the World Heritage Site of the Cape Floral Kingdom: a magestic variety of extremely rare and unique wild flowers. The large sandstone deck, on a grassy hill, facing West is ideal for enjoying a sundowner from atop a grassy hill. Braai would follow spontaneously among the trees, birds and frogs. And then the stars... Inside is a huge lounge and fire place, stocked with wood, books and entertainment. The kitchen and dining room is practical and well equipped, facing east, with a beautiful view of the mountain. Two bathrooms, one accessed from the back porch, serves the 5 comfy sized bedrooms: 2 twins interleading to 3 private double rooms. An epic picnic spot by the river is 400m away, with a wonderful ice cold swimming pond under two old oaks, from where the hiking and cycling trails diverge. The house is 25km away from the closest village, Stanford, and 6km off the main road. You'll be living 1,5km from your closest and often absent neighbours. Winter or Summer, a couple of days here will have you leave rested, rejuvenated, likely sunburnt, stiff muscled and planning your return. Guest access Guests will have access to the entire home and yard, and allowed to explore along the paths on the farm and mountain. Other things to note The closest supermarket is 25km away. Plan catering well and thoroughly. The kitchen has a large fridge-freezer for your supplies. Cellphone reception is poor, and unreliable. Do not expect to be able to work remotely. SMS is reliable. Voice calls can be made, but quality is often poor. Messaging apps do work sometimes but often deliver late. Water supply is untreated rain water from the mountain. It has a brown colour, and can sometimes smell of sulphur. Please bring your own drinking water. We supply 10 litres drinking per booking. We supply 1 bag of firewood for the braai. Extra can be purchased in the farm. Please excersize extreme caution when making fires. Only build fires in designated spots - Our vegetation is extremely vulnerable to runaway fires that spread extremely quickly and destroy thousands of hectares yearly.
