Established in 1987, Halcyon Heights Is Perched high on East HIll, the property has spectacular views of Grewingk Glacier, Kenai Mountain Range, Kachemak Bay and the mesmerizing Homer Spit. Guests love our quiet residential location, yet only a short scenic drive to town, Bishop beach, Wynn nature center, fishing lagoon and Homer Spit. The space Newly remodeled, this cozy queen room offers the comforts and privacy of home, suitable for a solo traveler or a romantic couple. Private bathroom and shower. Plan on staying for minimum 2 nights, allow time to thoroughly enjoy Homer's amazing adventures such as birding, hiking, kayaking, beach combing, fishing, bear viewing, fat-tire biking, meanwhile allowing downtime to take in the Halcyon Heights' quietness or sun basking on our sunny deck. Due to Covid 19, social distancing and face masks are required in common area. Communal Amenity might not be available for safety and health concerns. Guest access Contactless check in. Other things to note Our bnb is located just 5 to 15 minutes drive to many activities. **** A special note on Homer based brown bear tour. Very few places on earth offer a safe Bear Watching tour in its natural habitat. Homer is the best spot for this once-in-a-life time adventure if planed well. We can help you cherry pick your adventure based on the season, location, your fitness level etc...Let us know if this is on your bucket list. Guaranteed to see sears. Available May to Mid-October. Of course, there are lots of adventures not as $$ spendy. No matter what your budget is, there are always fun things to do and see in Homer. On the lighter side: Mostly free or small fee. 1) Visiting local Alaskan Art Galleries, some artists are world renown including Mr. Norman Lowell. 2) Pratt Museum - a wealth of knowledge of local history and culture, plus a live camera for gull island and brown bear viewing in Katmai National Park. Have you try a Survival Suit test when a boat is going down? You can test yourself here. 3) Carl Wynn Nature Center, guided hikes, view platform, our guests were impressed by how much they learned about Alaska native plants and relationship to animals living here. 4) Have you seen a sea anemone on low tide ? Go for a tide pooling walk on Bishop beach, Homer spit! 5) Fine dining, beer and wine tasting in local brewery. 6) Enjoy a cup of locally roasted coffee, chat with local people and find out their story, visit a local book store pick up some Alaskan books. 7) Island and ocean visitor center, nature & history videos, backyard boardwalk is the Beluga Slough trail leading to the lovely Bishop beach, where cranes and pipers feed and breed there. Free entry. 8) At 3:00pm watch the fishing boat return to small boat harbor and take photos of the big white fish called Halibut. The word is derived from haly (holy) and butte (flat fish), for its popularity on Catholic holy days. 9) On your way in or out of Homer, visit famous Russian Orthodox Church in Ninilchik (40 miles North Homer) 10) Pier One Theatre production by local performers. So much fun to go to the "Rythm of North" concert by the famous Johnny B. and other local musicians. 11) Anchor River Mouth -- West Mostly drivable point in North America, and bald eagles can be seen fishing around the estuary. 12) Farmer's Market open Wednesday & Saturday. Or... Just hanging on Halcyon Heights on the Sunny deck for some peaceful moments. Take a walk/hike on the mini-trail in our back property. Some guests enjoy the birding, animal tracks, flowers etc. On the adventurous side: From $$ to $$$, The once-a-lifetime experience ~~~~ Bear Viewing in Katmai National park - $$$. Ask us about the best tour in the season if interested. Take advantage of our local knowledge. We have been there and learned over the years that not every trip delivers the same experience. The super adventurous — Glamping! Glacier Camping over night trip is available since 2018. Have it all to yourself from sunset to sunrise…..get the whole new perspective and photos from above! Amazing to fly low and hover over the Homer Spit and the Grewingk Glacier and harding icefield. Other popular outdoor activities 1) Kayaking in the bay along the sea shore, sea otters and other animals. No experience needed. Water can be calm as glass most of the time...the best value activity. 2) 4 hours hike to Glacier lake and Halibut cove. Interesting natural history and wildlife viewing. 3) Half day horse back riding along the beach. 4 Seldovia excursion - a quaint little native town cross the bay. 5) Gull island & Kachemak Bay Birding trips. 6): Halibut Cove Lunch or Dinner Cruise -- Need reservation 907 226 2424 7) Rent a fat tire bike and get a ride on the sandy beach or the million dollar Spit trail. 8) Hire a boat for 2 hours exploring the rich marine wildlife and shorebirds in the Kachemak Bay State Park, $300 up to 4 people. Or tag along a water taxi for $50 each, when spaces available, be surprised, with destination unknown, what you could see in the K-Bay State park! 9) Join Alaska Artists, The Dean family to get immersed in their creative Alaskan lifestyle as you meander through a menagerie of art and animals, gardens and architecture; 2.5 hours tour both educational and entertaining $$. Minimum 3 people. Max 12. *** Pickleball fan? Come play at the local courts, we have 3 indoor courts opens 6 days a week. Limited complimentary paddles are available from the Homer Pickleball Club.
