Description
Chilston Home Farm is a period farmhouse in the middle of Kent, the Garden of England. We have lovely walks right from the door, it's perfect for exploring historic Kent and there's easy access to trains to London & Europe. You’ll love the period ambiance: the kitchen Aga, cosy log fires. Two of the bedrooms have king-size four-posters. There's even a bijou cinema! Lots of books & games, a piano, guitar & drums for music lovers, pool table & darts. Ideal for couples or larger families. The space Chilston Home Farm was originally, as its name suggests, the farm for the Chilston manorial estate. The farmhouse is attached to two farm cottages that once formed a medieval Wealden Hall House. So the property has parts that could be 300 to 600 years old. Most of the farmhouse is Georgian, but it's built on the foundations of a wing of the original hall house. The house is very spacious, light and airy, with room to explore and relax. There's a huge cellar, where we've put a cinema, pool/snooker table and darts board (and the tumble drier). There's a large farmhouse kitchen with the Aga plus an electric cooker, and a scullery with a coffee machine, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher etc. The dining room has a huge inglenook fireplace with a woodburner. In the front room we have a desk, bookcases, a guitar, piano and a drum kit for some family entertainment, although we would ask you to lower the volume after 10pm. The sitting room is at the back of the house, south-facing, and has a huge flat screen TV, DVD player, cosy woodburner and squishy sofas. The house is designed for quiet and friendly relaxation, family fun and enjoying & exploring the countryside. All the bedrooms are large and light. On the first floor, the master en-suite has a kingsize four-poster bed. The back bedroom also has a kingsize four-poster while the second front room has a kingsize double. There are also two attic rooms that used to be the servants quarters (one leading off the other one), with twin wooden beds in the far room and a single Laura Ashely iron bed in the nearest one. Being an old & quirky farmhouse, the attic stairs are very steep, and you have to mind your head, but it's all part of the character of staying in a really old house. We have 3 cot beds that can be placed in the double bedrooms, but please ask in advance as we store them away otherwise. As well as the en-suite shower room with WC, there is a family bathroom with slipper bath and body-jet shower and WC, a separate WC and a downstairs WC in the scullery. Outside is secure bicycle or outdoor gear storage, and we can lend you a pressure washer to clean up. Guest access Obviously all the internal nooks and crannies of the house on many levels are exclusively for your use. The farmhouse has a large front and side garden with picnic tables that's also yours for the duration of your stay. Surrounded by a picket fence and stone walls, it is secure for most pets. There is also a small rear courtyard that faces south. The farmyard driveway access is shared with us. You can park in the 3 spaces provided on the grass by the main gate (ask in advance if you need more). Other things to note Our house has been designed for varied accommodation requirements. PLEASE do make sure that your requested booking is entered with the correct number of people staying at our house, including children who require normal beds. (let us know about cot requirements separately). The number of people staying will affect the price just the same as a hotel or B&B. If you enter/book just 2 people, then only 2 people can stay. This house has lots of stairs due to its historic and quirky nature. Anyone with impaired movement or concerns about using stairs should speak to us before booking. Directly opposite is 20+ acres of public access countryside parkland and ponds to start off your exploring. Maps and directions are available. The house is for quiet and friendly relaxation and enjoying the countryside and surrounding area and villages. We are unable to book or accommodate loud or drunken groups. The house is strictly no smoking inside. Smoking is allowed in the front garden only and please use the butt bin.
