The White Horse Pub is a real hub of the village an serves really good pub food and excellent beer. The village community owns the pub and appoint an excellent Land Landlord - Craig and his team run a great pub and the WHITE HORSE is one of the very few pub's owned by villagers in the uk and now a real rarity in the Cotswolds The villagers raised the funds to buy the pub, supported by Blenheim Palace and an article in the New York Times secured support from their readers. It is a great story and the article is on the wall in the Pub BLENHEIM PALACE (5 Minute drive or walk from the Lodge (walking route in Lodge) and if you wish take the S3 bus back to the Lodge from Woodstock (6 days a week/ not Sunday) Britain’s Greatest Palace and the birthplace of Winston Churchill – you get a special perspective walking to the Palace from Brook Lodge which offers amazing views and provides insight to the Estate itself as you pass working farms and managed countryside and stunning places to stop and relax.A lovely day out from Brook Lodge is exploring the Palace, visiting the town of Woodstock and the grave of William Churchill in nearby Bladon WOODSTOCK HOME OF BLENHEIM PALACE) - 10 minute drive One of the prettiest towns in the Cotswolds, lots of historic buildings and some really lovely pubs and cafes (see our café and pub recommendations when you arrive at Brook Lodge), it's hard to find a disappointing one! We mention it often but arriving in Woodstock after a walk is a great way to arrive and you can usually take the bus back (every hour, takes ten minutes, no Sunday service). It is a seven minute drive to Woodstock DIDDLY SQUAT FARM (10 minute drive) Jeremy Clarkson's farm is in the same valley as Brook Lodge close to the village of Chadlington - (search for the Diddly Squat farm online to find opening hours and directions). There is a small shop and cafe and bar which attracts the crowds DIDDLY SQUAT - DISCOVER A SPECIAL EXPERIENCE Whilst long queues are common at Diddly Squat we have a fabulous walking route that takes you through the heart of the farm, and often past those who are working there and have become famous faces following the Amazon TV series. The countryside here is fabulous. The walking route is little known even amongst many locals! Highly recommended. (see file in Lodge for details) CHARLBURY (ten minute drive or a stunning 45 minute walk across 'the down' from the Lodge In the last few years beautiful Charlbury has become a real Cotswold hot spot. Two of the best pubs in the Cotswolds are here (The Bull and the The Bell). Both have amazing outdoor areas and award winning food. e most wonderful DAYLESFORD - Described as the 'best farm shop in Britain' DAYLESFORD is around 20 minutes drive from Brook Lodge and has the most incredible l produce and now also offers much more than food. A lovely place to stop for a coffee, a pizza or even a meal Inside the Lodge you will find a guest book with more details these and other places to visit in this special part of the Cotswolds Oxford One of the most beautiful cities in Britain We have guides and information on Oxford in the Lodge and it your schedule allows it really recommend a visit. It’s a twenty-five minute drive (more in peak times) or a fifteen- minute train ride from Charlbury Station (3 miles from Brook Lodge) where there is parking. We recommend taking the train for a relaxed trip into the city BICESTER VILLAGE It's advertised in cities around the world as a must visit British attraction. The advertising works and it can get very, very crowded. Designer brands at outlet prices have made Bicester Village famous and it seems to be continually expanding. It’s about 25 minutes to drive to Bicester Village from Brook Lodge. A good tip is to get there early before crowds. If you don’t fancy that, then consider leaving your car at Oxford Parkway Station (free parking) and a 15-20 minute drive from Brook Lodge and take a 10 minute ride to Bicester Village Station. Other things to note Your parking place is just a few metres from the front door, access up a ramp and no steps. Inside the Lodge is on one level. The only steps are outside from the decking area to your private garden but if there is an alternative flat route to the garden.
