In an idyllic village on the edge of the Peak District National Park, Fern Cottage is a 19th century cottage, full of character. Sympathetically renovated throughout, it offers everything you need for the perfect getaway in the country: 4 comfy bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, cosy log burner, open plan kitchen, and a private garden with gas BBQ, wood fired pizza oven and secure cycle store. You’ll find great walks, cycling and water sports on your doorstep and the classic country pub across the road. The space Built in 1880, Fern Cottage is the classic country cottage, with thick stone walls, timber beams and lots of character. Sympathetically renovated to a high standard throughout, the accommodation is set over 3 floors and comprises: Ground Floor: Lounge – comfortably seating 8 people with log burner and a flat screen smart TV with complementary Netflix for cosy evenings in. Kitchen-diner – the kitchen has a large range cooker with a gas hob, dishwasher, Smeg fridge-freezer plus separate wine cooler and island unit for informal gatherings. The dining space, also seating 8, is open to the kitchen making a great entertaining space. Utility - there is a small utility area with washing machine plus a separate downstairs toilet. First Floor: Bedroom 1 – with king-sized bed, walk through wardrobe and en-suite bathroom with a large walk-in rain shower. Bedroom 2 – with king-sized bed Family Bathroom – with a double ended, roll top bath plus separate rain shower. Second Floor: Bedroom 3 – with double bed Bedroom 4 – with two single beds Bathroom – with shower Workspace: Bedroom 4 has a dedicated workspace with views over the countryside. There is a desk and chair, extension cable with surge protection, USB charging and good Wi-Fi. Outside Space: The cottage has its own private garden and patio area, complete with outside dining for 8 people, a gas BBQ and a wood fired pizza oven for perfect evenings outside. (Pizza oven and BBQ available April – October). There is also a secure cycle store for up to 8 bikes, plus a washing station and basic toolkit. Guest access Fern Cottage is ideally positioned to explore all the Peak District has to offer and is perfect for gatherings of friends or family. Whether you enjoy walking, cycling, eating, drinking, exploring, sightseeing or shopping, Fern Cottage provides the ideal base. The Peak District with is spectacular scenery and popular walks such as Dovedale, Manifold Valley and Thor’s Cave are all within easy reach. There is a footpath going right past the back gate of the cottage. For cyclists, Fern Cottage has a secure cycle store holding up to 8 bikes, a pump and basic toolkit, plus bike washing facilities. The traffic-free High Peak trail passes right past the village, perfect for families, or for the more adventurous, why not try the Tour de Peak District route that passes right past the front door. There are two great pubs in the village – the Olde Gate Inn directly opposite the cottage, and the Miners Arms just a few minutes’ walk away. Both have their own distinct style but offer good food and beer. You’ll also find lots of other great places to eat in the local area, from cosy tea rooms and cafes to fine dining restaurants. Carsington Water is just down the road with a great play park, café, cycling, water sports and really good ice cream! There's lots to explore in the surrounding area including: Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Alton Towers, the Heights of Abraham, Gullivers Kingdom, Cromford Rocks, Tissington Trail & Village, Derwent Valley Mills Unesco World Heritage Site, Crich Tram Museum, Peak Wildlife Park, the Peak District Lead Mining Museum, Poole's Cavern and the market towns of Ashbourne (5 miles), Wirksworth (6 miles), Matlock (12 miles), Bakewell (15 miles), and Buxton (22 miles). Other things to note There is parking for 2 cars on the road outside the cottage. If you have more than two cars, please park them further up the road outside the pub car park, out of respect for our neighbours. Please note – the parking is on the opposite side of the road, so there is no way of charging an electric vehicle at the property. There is good (free) Wi-Fi throughout the property, but no mobile signal in the area. A full basket of logs is included in your booking for use in the log burner and pizza oven, further logs can be purchased if required during your stay. Gas for the BBQ is also included. Please let us know if you would like to use the cycle store and we will provide you with the key to the padlock. We allow up to 2 well behaved dogs, but they must remain downstairs and off the furniture. We charge £35 per dog, payable on arrival. Sorry we don’t allow smoking, including e-cigarettes.
